I think this whole 'you can't call it a Ferrari 308 anymore' is nonsense and semantics. It's a Ferrari 308 Hot Rod
Yes! I saw one of those years ago in I think kitcar magazine?. The guy was looking at 308 kits but decided it was cheaper to buy a broken 308 and install a fierro rear subframe and engine to make more reliable and affordable....hmmm....sounds familiar
Almost forgot to get back to you... My guess would be the same as the 360, same block architecture. Beyond that gets invasive and expensive.... The issue is Siamese liners as the bore gets larger. Cooling, hot spots, etc... Check the 360 specs on the liner OD and compare the 308 one. Thinking about it... I might have those liners handy.. I'll check tomorrow.
If you’re going to bring the 308 into the future, why not start with a clean slate and design the 308 reimagined as if it was being released this year. A tribute to an iconic design that saved Ferrari. Painters tape and bits of carbon fiber bling doesn’t cut it.
yes I totally get that, but then don’t tout yourself as some kind of innovator with a ridiculous $500,000 asking price. Come on man, either swing for the fence or not at all. Remember those guys A few years ago that were taking Corvettes, adding a new tubular Chassis and turning them into mid engine sports cars? Way more innovative than what I’m seeing here. Just my opinion and we all know what that’s worth.
Are you sure you are not mixing up this project with the one on Gas Monkey Garage or another? Maybe I'm wrong but I never saw a price tag attached to the build of the car in this thread nor have I seen it to be eventually for sale.
thinks Rob. I might be in need of a drug test this morning because I’m posting in the totally wrong thread. My apologies.
The only thing worse than putting a Honda engine in a Ferrari is putting Ferrari body panels on a Fiero.
This wizard dude, does not look like a guy who should be driving any Italian car, let along a Ferrari, jeez, hes to fat and big to fit in it in the first place lol ! And whats with the Maserati suv ? lol Its a wise guys observation. I prefer the guy Jack in England,, @ number27vids, much more entertaining , and he looks like a proper Ferrari driver who actually looks like he fits in the car. Thank you
The Wizard has a certain charm that has endeared him to a big YouTube audience. That said the work he is carrying out on the 308 should in no way act as a reference of any sort. While I totally get that he is not doing a concours restoration (and makes no claims as such) he does spew out endless inaccuracies that can easily mislead people. The interior work on that 308 is only a few steps removed from the abortion that was there before but is still miles away from what left the factory and he seems to struggle to just refer to his car as heavily modified from stock.
wisdom here....I admit that I got a little triggered when he sandblasted(?) the rear horsey logo and did not at least polish it to a chrome finish. But like I said before, he will at least get the car running correctly, and maybe the next owner takes the restore to the next level.
Thank you for your reply. Did you sell all the left over parts, engine, gearbox, electrics? Being such lowmileage those would make some owners life easier and better. That is rude, that would be rude even if you were 15! So owners looks now are what decide who can own and what? Nothing to do with how competent the owner is on wrenching on he's own and original Ferrari.
Good luck buying parts from Mike. I reached out to him months ago about buying the battery cover and hold down from the 308. We agreed on a price and he said he would ship it to me. I sent several emails over the next few weeks which were not replied to. I commented in one of his YouTube videos that I still wanted to buy the parts and he finally replied via email. He said he would try and find the parts. I sent several more emails which again were not replied to. I commented in a couple more YouTube videos that I still wanted the parts and he finally replied with “I have your email, I caught your comments. I will reach out when I am ready to list and ship stuff”. That last comment was over a month ago and I haven’t heard from him since nor do I expect to. At this point I’m done with him. I’m not going to beg people to sell parts to me.
Oh you will be Surprised how good you become in begging for parts for your 308. Especially NLA parts.
It's the finding them that's getting to be a pain. Speaking of, we'll be clearing out the warehouse this summer/fall of nearly 30yrs of collected 308 parts. Need to catalog them, my oldest will be busy with the camera. I'll post a thread later this yr on it. Inventory can be such a pita...
"It's all for attention waaah wahh wahhhh" You know I'm a real, normal person, right? I still have your email. I still have your information saved. Have you stopped to ask yourself why I haven't followed through? Because the world doesn't revolve around you. I still see you're wildly miffed that some dude on the the internet that doesn't know you doesn't want to go out of his way to cater to you. You act so damn entitled, man! I don't owe you or anyone else any parts. I haven't sold anything off the car other than the engine itself and the interior to a close friend of mine. I have a mountain of parts I do plan on selling, get this... when time allows. I'm a busy guy and I don't want to commit to taking peoples' money right now when I know I am not likely to ship something out right away. Before long, a LOT of parts are going to be available. The battery cover was even set aside with your name on it. Sounds like you can find your battery cover elsewhere though. Instead of politely following up, you just leave passive aggressive comments on my videos or leave comments on forums painting me like I'm the bad guy. I sold the engine, injection system, and the gearbox. I have most of the electrics still, as well as the complete AC system, smog system, exhaust, etc. I'll make a comprehensive list of parts eventually! It's all stuff I'd like to get rid of. I've just been too busy to deal with it right now.
WOW! So, I'm entitled because I expect someone to do what they say they will do and not drag me on for months? Why didn't you tell me when I first contacted you that you will sell the parts "when time allows. I'm a busy guy and I don't want to commit to taking peoples' money right now when I know I am not likely to ship something out right away". Unfortunately I'm not a mind reader and I knew none of these things. After proving what a jerk you are, I have no desire in doing any business with you so you know what you can do with your parts.
You're the one who quoted me with "I have your email, I caught your comments. I will reach out when I am ready to list and ship stuff.” Is that not clear enough? I was never even anywhere close to rude or abrasive with you. I've done nothing to be a jerk towards or to you what so ever. I can post every single comment and email in here if need be. I was polite, but absent, and made it clear I'd reach out in acknowledgement of that fact. You're making forum posts about me. How am I the jerk here?
You only told me that months after I initially contacted you. The day I contacted back in January you told me "You can paypal me and cover fees.. I should be able to ship it out today or tomorrow". Surely you can understand my frustration after being dragged along for months.
The very next thing I said to you was an apology and that I had been tied up with things. I then informed you I hadn't seen a missed email from you. In every case, I was very polite with you. Sorry you feel wronged? I was ready to ship when you first reached out, and I have been busy since - so busy, in fact, that I haven't sold anything else off the car either. When I told you I'd reach out, I don't know how much more straight-forward one can be. If you don't want the part by the time I'm ready to start packaging and shipping parts out, I understand, that's more than fair. But it doesn't make me some massive jerk.
