Hi all, I want to undo the “tubes” that connect to the exhaust valves on my 458. I know how to remove the carbon diffuser and unplug the things. I was just unsure what to plug them with. I heard golf tees were an option some people used. If anyone has done this and has some tips please share away. Thanks!

I disconnected the single vac line that feeds both valves. There’s a hard line (bottom in pic) that I capped with a rubber cap (can find at any auto parts store). The hard line is the important one as it’s connected to the rest of the vac system. The soft line I plugged with a small rubber stopper just to keep dirt out of it, but a golf tee, small screw, etc will work.

I would highly, highly, highly recommend getting a remote exhaust valve controller like from http://www.forzacomponenti.com/ rather than stick the valves permanently open.

The F136 in the 458 sounds fantastic at higher revs and WOT, but when cruising on the freeway at 3krpm it can drone. And when tooling around town at low speeds it can be a little loud.

The controller allows you to control if you want the valves to behave like normal or keep them open if you're feeling a little cheeky.

I would hate it if my valves were permanently open. That said it's your own personal preference.

Agree 100% with axlesofevil. Have had my Forsa controller for over 6 years now on my 458.

I have the valves plugged in my 458 Spider. If I want to quietly drive through my neighborhood I shift it up a gear and keep it at 2500 RPM. If want to let the neighbors know I'm home I'll drop down a gear and cruise in at 3500. Regardless of your choice getting those valves open is the key to that fabulous exhaust note.

No problem. I suppose worst case scenario you can keep the valves open and if you hate it you can reverse it. I would definitely hate it. You might think you'll like it but wait until you're on the freeway and all you can hear is brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I installed Capristo on mine and 100% it was the correct thing to do. Like Forza was the right thing to do! They are controllable. It's a Ferrari guys & yes you can stick a golf tee etc. and get the sounds- It's like when you were a kid & took a clothespin to attach a card to your bicycle spokes to sound like a motor!

Now with so many people saying get a remote for the valves so you can still experience it with them fully open it might be a good idea. I think ill try it fully open for a little while and if it gets annoying ill just get a valved novitec! thanks.

I've only had my 458 for a little over a month, and couldn't take the automatic opening/closing of the valves. For me, open all the time is way better. With that said, I have headers, IPE exhaust, and a Forza controller sitting in my garage so the open valves are temporary. I just have to find time to install the new exhaust.

I plugged the vacuum hoses with M6 machine screws. They fit in perfectly when turning them with a ratchet.

It's great to have the valves open all the time. Can drone a bit on 3k rpm but who cares! All sounds a 458 exhaust is making are great.

I say try it for a couple days (including some time where you're stuck in traffic on the freeway) to see how you like it.

    Update:

Valves have been opened fully for one week. One of the best mods and sounds great. Thanks for the help all.

Yea, I agree. For me at least it was a dramatic improvement. Downshifts are tremendously improved.

closing the valves is absolutely needed sometimes. do it right. install the controller. this is why folks shop for 1 owner 458. reduces the opportunity for silliness like snapping off a vacuum tube.

How difficult is the install on the controllers? Can it be done by only removing the rear diffuser?

I did this on my 458, as opposed to disconnecting the line at the valves (which is what I've done on other cars including F12). Now I am getting a cel, code P0413 air system switching valve circuit open. Has anyone else experienced this? I don't get any code on the F12. Actually, the only reason I disconnected the line here as opposed to at the valves....was that it was a very tight space and I was having difficulty disconnecting one of the lines. So, I plugged the other one back in, and then unplugged the line before the bifurcation. But now getting the code. Any experience here?

    Hi Denton,

Make sure you plug that vac line because leaving that open will cause a vacuum leak.

I did do that, but I may take a look again this weekend just to make sure the cap/plug did not come loose.
