Not me unfortunately but the guys I used to work for flew LON NYC regularly... If the ‘new’ HK airport had existed then, it may have been a dealbreaker for Concorde’s future...

 

You are aware that both the British and French Concordes visited HK (Kai Tak airport) ?

Apart from over crowding at that airport which was de-commissioned in '98 , lets remember Concorde flew to 2003 ! The route was not ever going to happen ..

Why would have the new airport been "a dealbreaker" ?

It was not a viable route for Concorde .

Only 14 aircraft were built for commercial usage , if you look at the routes of flight , I doubt there was a spare plane for a London /Honkers route .

 

I miss the old Airport…It feels like yesterday we moved our jets from Kai Tak to CLK…

 

I can't remember flying into HK in 1961.

But I remember early December 1970 flying in on a PAN AM 707....unlimited Coca Cola on board

We stayed with friends on the Peak CEO Of Jardine &Co Bryan Inglis , did all the normal stuff , floating restaurants at Aberdeen .

We spent a day going to the Chinese border ?

My Grandmother due to her business interests would often travel to HK once a month in the 50s and 60s so she was well connected over in HK.

She was very close to a family who had other members on mainland ? They got out and came here , I think my Grandmother sponsored them to Australia , anyway they the family members were elite HK wealth ,we were driven around HK in a Mercedes Benz 600 day after day .

The highlight for me was watching on TV the Ali vs Oscar Bonavena fight on the Peak .
