I actually own one IWC. My father gave it to me. Will never sell it. 5524r is just gorgeous. I love mine. Can’t tell you to sell IWC but I’ve always been a plus one instead of either or kinda guy. Lol.

a quick question. I am currently debating between 5396R vs 5235/50R. Thoughts? I am having hard time understanding the new 5235/50R is selling 10k below asking, whereas to he 5396R blue dial is holding well. I was under the impression that 5235 is the only regular watch, and I really like how the logo is black and can't be seen easily with gray dial. I keep all watches but still wondering if 5396R movement is so much better. Thanks!

I have the 5235R, I bought it precisely because it doesn't look like any other Patek, same with the 5524. Its a Regulator, making it one of Patek's most accurate watches. It also has the only Patek watch movement NOT shared in any other Patek model, unique in that why. I believe it will have a short run and be discontinued in the not too distant future. Will it ever go up in value? Who knows, but IMO all the elements are there for a future "collectable watch" (?), plus you get a very heavy discount on a brand new watch. In case you didn't know, there's a white gold version that came out first 5235G.

yes, that is how I feel too. By the way, there was an important typo. 5235R is a regulator watch. I typed regular....lol

Yeah, but I knew you knew it was a regulator.

Forget current values- which one sings to you most? Who knows what the value will be in the future. Buy the one you love. Frankly for me- I love the 5235. It’s unique and awesome.

And then what do you do with the money? To buy into anything else is just stupid. Everything is overpriced. If you need the funds- by all means sell now but if you sell and the cash is just going to sit there- may as well keep the watches.

I knew you gonna say that. Lol. Right after I posted the question, I realized it became one of those thread about the value of FF depreciation, to which I usually answered, since I don't sell then I don't have to deal with depreciation! :)

In all honesty, I was wondering if the following could be deduced... that since the current value of 5235 is so much cheaper than asking, maybe the movement is not as reliable??

    I personally prefer 5235R too...but I have a feeling the director wanna push 5396...

exactly, you can't buy back these things with the same prices you get today later...then like socal said, what do I do with the money? I can't buy back the 458 even if I was offered 200k for a 2015 with 9k miles on it. Having said that, if you are not even wearing it at all, and there is no personal feeling or history to it, then it may make sense to selling now.

I don’t think the price has anything to do with quality. It’s the public perception of the watches and certain watches are trendy. Trust me- my 85k 5905 had to be serviced 3 times in 2 years. My 5168 green just went in for service. My 22k 5522 has never had to go in. Buy what you love and enjoy.

If you don't mind me asking, did you have issues with the calendar on the 5905?

It was just not keeping time. Calendar was fine. They fixed it eventually and it was all under warranty but just mildly annoying.

My 5270 is sitting at the AD. Haven’t picked it up yet. I told him to hold it till my 50th. If that thing has issues, I’m gonna be pissed.

I suppose I'd mostly sit on it then buy few pieces once they come back down to earth - some brands I think will keep high prices but not all

    It was just a thought

Spectacular. I fully approve. Maybe add an aquanaut as a fun colorful sports watch to round out the trio.

Beautiful! I would even go so far as to say either one of them by themselves is good enough to call a “collection”! :)

I have the 5968 and 5168. Both unique. But to me t the 5968 is miles ahead of 5168 and the new blue 5968 is probably the most stunning watch Patek has released in a decade. The regular non chrono 5168 is just missing something....the 5968 is so much more balanced. I’d say seeing Roma’s car collection, it’s very classic and stylish so I’d vote for the blue 5968 to round out bye collection.

Im debating if I should do the same but im wanting to consolidate, not expand the collection. With the 5270 incoming, I dont know how much I will wear the 5524 (Even though I love the watch). I have the 5522- so maybe swap the 5524 for the blue 5968- but then do I need 3 aquanauts??? First world problems. lol
