Discovered this guy a few weeks ago. He just posted this cool video. I know much of this has been discussed here before, but seeing and hearing the car as he drove and explained things was very interesting.

Its pretty crazy he set PSI to 1.78 considering my car is set at 4.7.

Ditto....that didn't line up with me either. My indie swears around between 4.3- 4.7. Go lower for quicker shifts but sacrifice wear. Choices, choices....

IS it the opposite - quicker shifts would mean less wear theoretically.

i set mine so it rolls slightly in 1st with no gas and no brakes, just barely rolls in 1st on level ground, so far 61,000 miles on the same clutch and shifts fast.

I do go to N on red lights.

That’s impressive. I thought it was piontless to go to neutral at red lights. You think it wears throw out bearing if you leave in gear? What’s your thoughts? You are doing something right to make it last 60k miles. Mine is set up same, so it rolls slightly in first. I do have to feather first a little to get moving with no slip and typically fully disengage clutch around 1200rpm.

Unless sitting for a really long time, I found shifting into Neutral to be a pain. I read in another thread that the 360 throw out was pressed against the pressure plate so that it always spun w the crank. Is that accurate and is the F430 the same?

I once had a n employee whose greatest asset was that he could speak with authority, even when he knew nothing about the subject.

The guy in the video seems like a great guy, but when he makes an entire video about the single-clutch setup and adjusting the PIS, but tells you mid-point that he has "no idea what it even means", well I'll be honest: he lost me. (not difficult to know what it means, as it's pretty clearly described in the owners' manual and the shop manual, and pretty much ANYWHERE you look on the internet)

He speaks of rev-matching on down shifts, like it's something he's doing himself..... I think we all know better.
He talks about how he sets the value with his Leonardo, but he doesn't talk about how he CHOOSES a setting/value, except to say that it's a compromise between himself and the other driver. And then the value he comes-up with eschews all conventional wisdom and 15-years of others' experience.
I'm not saying it can't be correct; but when one bucks the conventional without an explanation of how or why, one loses credibility.

I guess I'm saying "Eyes Wide Open". I wouldn't follow this video blindly. Add it into all of the rest of the sources available and make your own determinations.

I think this one offers a great deal more.

This person obviously knows the F1 system quite well

It's for Maserati but it's the same and he'll indicate that

One other note with respect to the Launch X431 V Pro

There is a red case version and a black case version.

The black case version is $50.00 cheaper!

I don't think it hurts the TO bearing. I think it spins all the time no matter what, but I cant swear to it. I figure if it rolls slightly in 1st, it might be better to just set in N at long lights. No idea if it does anything, but I think it does. 61k miles is for real.

i go to N every single time i come to a full stop
it was a habit i developed driving manual cars i think it's better for the car simply because there are no springs being stretched
nothing being pressed ...the car is in it's neutral state.

can someone explain what PIS do ?

"Punto di Incipiente Slittamento" or, "Point of Initial Slip".
This is a measurement (in mm) which informs the TCU where the clutch begins to engage as it moves. (in the driver-training world, we call this the "Friction Point".)

Great vidio very informative. I found it interesting how he concentrated on clutch wear index and how the PIS effects this which is 100% correct it would have been nice if he included how the PIS and gearbox input shaft speed are being effected at the same time.
I could have done without the background music.
I could not catch what SW version he was running..
    Overall very good.!
