89 328 owners - anyone interested in replacing their side air intake hose with a perfectly crafted reproduction, please ping me and I’m happy to connect you with the source. I personally inspected these hoses and they are exact, factory spec reproductions, so I wanted to share. To my knowledge, there has only been one other source for these and the prices are insane. For the record, I am not affiliated with these and I have nothing to gain. I’m just sharing because I know many 89 328 owners who desire to have a factory correct air intake hose had nowhere to turn.

I have the CH88 Mondial which also had this insulated hose, not sure the length is the same, but please provide the contact.

Do you know what the factory part number was, this hose does not appear on the usual exploded diagrams.

I’ll have to ask the person that makes them first. I’m traveling right now. I’ll be in touch. I may just have him post a classified. Stay tuned.

Clearly there is some interest! I have been using "dryer hose" for 10+ years since my OEM hose insulation basically turned to "rubber particles" that accumulated/covered about 1/2 the air filter! Since I don't do concours, I'm fine with dryer hose but would prefer the OEM style if the price is "reasonable." And...I accept the fact that "reasonable" in this particular universe would be "You gotta be kidding me!" in the normal universe! :)

Everyone stay tuned. I’ll come back early next week with more clarity. This wasn’t meant to be a classified, so I don’t want to be breaking the rules on here. If you’re interested ping me. Thanks.

Gentlemen - just following-up on this. Seems interest is very strong. I am getting a few more photos and will be posting an ad in the classifieds in the coming days so as not to break any Fchat rules. The ad will post photos, price, specs and shipping details. I will alert you when the classified is posted. Thanks.

Who ever buys a hose do not throw yours away. The ends are being reused and in fact have a date of production on them as well as the part number. The guy who is making them very probably wants them to make hoses.

Brian - thank you for adding this. Yes, the end units from your car will be needed to fabricate the new hoses. All the details will be in the classified.

Apologies, after additional consideration, and discussing this further with my source, we’ve decided to move on from this opportunity. The main reason being, we cannot guarantee that the materials will be an exact representation of the original hose, therefore, I’m not going to stake my reputation as an absolute purist on this, nor is he. Having said that, there are a couple threads on Fchat that offer tutorials on how to fairly closely replicate the hose. If you’re not hung up on exact reproduction, I would encourage you to look into that option. Apologies again.

For anybody who still has an OEM 89 328 induction hose on their car, here's a pic I published a few years ago showing where that disintegrating foam goes... ;)

    Ummm how?
The hose shown runs from the distributor body to the TB. Front of filter to side intake is a fiberglass duct and rubber boot.

Unless you're referring to furry little monsters building a home.. Then yeah.. Buggers will nibble everything!

It was a required modification for noise standards. They didn't change that because they wanted too.
Induction noise was always a problem for them on 328. The old fiberglass piece was a muffler.

After doing a bit of research myself turns out the Australian delivered cars came with a flexible ribbed hose but no foam covering.

Either it was swapped by all dealers, came like that from the factory, or even a period factory recall but every Australian delivered 1989 328 GTS that I have seen (and I've seen and judged a lot) has the hose like or very similar to mine.

I wonder if that was the case with other 1989 delivered cars worldwide?

As noted earlier, the foam-covered intake hose was a result of US Gov dB level requirements for the 1989 model year. Whether it was used elsewhere would have depended on the regulations of the particular country. Obviously, Australia did not have the same dB-level requirement for that year.

That no-foam hose pictured is exactly what's on my US 89. I have records going back to '91 with no mention of swapping the intake hose, but that doesn't really mean it wasn't. It does look like it's been in there a long time though. Maybe the foam deteriorated early on mine and a mechanic replaced it without documenting it.

If you have an 89 US 328, it originally had a foam wrapped hose.

I don't doubt it. I'm glad there's no foam on it now, as I love intake noise. :D
