    Other knee-jerk reactions:
    - Much prefer the wheel design over F8. Reminiscent of the 458 Speciale wheel.
    - I like that the front end design is cleaner and more classically beautiful than the squinty SF90 and (IMO) overstyled F8.
    - Not a fan of the visor windshield.
    - Side air intakes reminiscent of the F430.
    - No red engine cover?!
    - 8,500rpm? Yes please.
    - Expected, but no analogue rev counter and haptic everything (incl Engine Start). Not my preference.
    - Looks like rainwater will pool in places in the engine cover. Surely not?
    - The rear has received great praise. I hate to say that it doesn't do much for me. Round tail light type of guy.

I may change many of these views when I see it in person / it grows on me. I was secretly hoping for something to make me list the 488 and go to my dealer. At first glance, the 488's going nowhere.

It is not really a shorter car. 4400mm would be siginificant shorter or 4250mm (355 measurement)

Agree. This is what is unappealing me as well. Overall the car is a winner and will do well. Just depends on the price.

You're right - straight line flowing into curve over the wheel arch aft of the intake. For some reason it just doesn't look right to me on the 296 (did I mention my untrained, unprofessional eye?). Maybe the curve is too pronounced, I'm not sure. It may all go away once I see it in person.

It's probably because the 250 LM has a rounded front end with the headlights leading the design over the fenders and back whereas the 296 is more angular in the front and rounded over the rear arches so the contrasting rear stands out more.

Interesting looking at shots of actual car it seems to be on Michelin PS4's not Pirellis
That is the one thing I am going to change on 812.

I wonder if this will attract a new group of Ferrari buyers. I hope so.

Appearance wise, I very much prefer the SF90 Stradale. The 296 is nice looking, but too soft, not "technical" enough. The numbers are good, but you cannot be impressed after seeing those of the Stradale. The V6 has a huge specific output though and Ferrari calls its sound as that of "half a V12", due to the similar harmonics. People who compare it to the Nettuno, fail to see that the Ferrari it is both more powerful and revs higher.

Nice Ford GT40, but this is the ugliest Ferrari of the decade.

So many conflicting statements here. Too soft? Not technical enough? I think you got the soft part the wrong way around. The sf90 has the face of a cream puff and the backside of a deformed elephant in comparison to 296.

Assuming the marketing department isn't pulling our legs here, the V6 does sounds very V12ish. Engine nerds, do we know why this is? Does it have to do with the firing order of a 120 degree V6?

    830 PS and 1470KG, close enough :D

All in all, I like this new 296, even if I'd have liked to see "smoother" side lines, especially regarding the transition to the intakes.

The Pista's design is absolutely golden.

Thats where to design loses me: the transition from the nose to the tail. Tail is well done, nose..so so. As always looking forward to seeing it in the flesh and test drive…

Love the design - 296GTB is a better bang for the buck than recent Ferrari's

I like it although I do think the transition to the rear could be better. I wonder if the nose can be made more aggressive at the bottom with the asseto fiorano package. Perhaps a more aggressive front spoiler.

This thing looks superb. Lithe, low, small, agile, its a size re-boot akin to how the F12 was to the 599. Love it. I get that there's perhaps a lack of traditional harmony between the front half and rear half in profile but this kind of challenging aesthetic gives design longevity, rather than feeling 'right' straight away which can age designs prematurely.
