What to say of the Merc-AMG One at $2.7M then. I know it’s like an F1 for the road but still a 6-cylinder. And an odd-firing 90-degree one at that.
Not comparing to other marks. The 812 at $400k is an NA V12 with much higher hp, higher redline and way better sound. I remember when $400k was flagship money (2 years ago). The hybrid route is a way to market tiny engines that need electric motors and batteries to be acceptable yet they price it way above what is rational for a production road car.
11,000rpm 275 total production hypercar supposedly street legal (unclear if homologated worldwide or just Germany/EU) Perhaps not an equivalent comparison
For sure you are right. Still, they could have done it better( in my humble view) Maybe the stalk position is what bothers me the most,it's too low, to much detached from the car. Same with sf90. I wish they design it with more emotion , like they used to. See testarossa, 430 scuderia, laferrari, just to name a few.
The front of the 458 took some getting use to from me. The mustache wings were awkward at first to my eyes. But it came around quickly. I never at any point thought the 458 was “ugly” in any area. But the 296 feels pretty good all over…right away. A tidy, clean design that should age gracefully for years to come. I think its a winner. Sent from my iPad using FerrariChat
I think that cars that have subtle shapes are more difficult to understand visually than sharp lines and creases. IMO this car will look pretty stunning in person, and in lighter or metallic colors that really show of the curves. I don't see this car in black at all. It will just look like a hole in the background. I think that's why they introduced it in metallic red -- to show off more of the curves and reflections because it looks a bit "flat" in solid color in photography. I don't know if they have said what the redline is yet but the MC20 is 8500. The MC20 also looks really good in metallic red.
I know this is a repost of this image, but I can't stop staring at it. I think this angle must be the one intended to see the dramatic, sexy lines of the 296's profile. WOW!! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Interesting that most of the comments on 296 are all about the design, style, power, and fun factor etc. Seems like the hybrid aspect has been pretty much accepted already after the SF90 shock. So this will give Ferrari reassurance going forward, proving the orders roll in which looks like a no brainer already.
Great pic—really shows off the curve of the front fender hump and how tight it is to the wheel opening. Everything else also looks great except for the fish mouth opening in side view.
I want to know, is the 296 a replacement for the F8 OR, it's a new category, and there will be another replacement for the F8
yes. “New segment” is marketing talk. It replaces the mid engine 2 seater Ferrari for people looking to spend 300-400k. F8 will overlap for a bit while Ferrari measures demand so they retain option to adjust production between The models to meet requires volume. This is a market test (will sell like hot cakes).
Ferrari might be afraid - by reading loud comments here and there - that it will be difficult to sell the V6 hybrid so they keep the option of selling F8 in parallel. But I bet the car based on a more than 10 year old platform won't be a credible contender, and its sale numbers will shrink very quickly. Things could be different if there was a brand new non hybrid V8 alternative to the 296, but 296 vs F8? There is no fight in the market for new cars.
For many of us a v6 hybrid is out of the question. Many here who are praising the 296 won't be buyers so this forum doesn't represent realistic sales demand.
Well, it is not out of the question someone like me who: 1) Has been driving 992 Turbo S and understands the rush of non-V8 power on a smaller chassis 2) Was also an early Tesla adopter and has experienced the power of eTorque 3) Does not care to drive a wedgy, very aggressively styled vehicle.
My dealer informed me the hybrid system has a 5 year warranty. At least they extended those components
