This has become a depressing thread: I guess the virtue signal crowd would like us all to live in a dystopian world of cold and darkness whilst we eat soylent green manufactured in China and work remotely from home on our laptops- vehicles no longer being necessary and as a matter of fact outlawed. Travel allowed by public transport only or special permit. We all receive our goods and services through Amazon and it’s ilk.
Porsche will be selling rear engines e-bikes.
McKaren will be selling carbon fiber e-bikes that still look weird.
Ferrari will be known for its rear midengine 8 cell e-bikes that are gorgeous to look at and handle well and it’s more expensive front midengine 12 cell e-bikes that accelerate faster.
Ferrari chat threads will still be arguing the advantages and disadvantages of rear and front midengine designs on the bikes and whether Michelin’s are better than Pirellis.
    NOOOOOO![emoji33]
It must all have been a bad dream!
Seriously folks-we are still in the midst of the highest performance era sports cars have ever seen! Enjoy it for as long as it lasts and get and keep the cars you love most!

How can they render ICE entirely moot when the grid cannot charge enough EV's at the moment and were will the working class buy cars since EV's are much more costly ?

    To clarify:

    ICE entirely moot

for new production...new model introductions, not for existing approved models currently in production or existing inventory

as for grid support, that will be lacking, but, honestly, so will actual non-hybrid EVs (i.e. 'pure EV'), probably by 2030 there might be 30-35 million total (worldwide) ever made pure EVs, that's a huge maybe by the way, could be closer to 10-15 million, we'll see, but at either of those amounts, probably will not be a substantial drain on power grids

and, there is the pesky issue of those without access to overnight parking + charging, which is quite a substantial number of persons, that plus the continuing lack of "superchargers" that can charge a battery from 20% to 80% in 45 minutes, makes pure EVs entirely moot for a substantial group

none of this is well thought out, but, perhaps there are other motivations at play here...I'll leave that for P&R section

Big question for me is whether the replacement will have the same 9400 rev limit as the competizione

There is no indication that this will be an evolution of the current V12.

I suggest we keep the word pure out of it as to not derail the thread from the start.

    The vocabulary is very simple.

    N/A = Naturally aspirated

    FI = Forced induction

    Assisted = Hybrid

The latter can be applied to both above.

    Just a thought:)

I wanted something more simple and shorter than "Unassisted N/A"

I think it is too early to say what it will be. What I get is that there WILL be a V12.

It's a bit confusing in relation to the EU regulations. Even with the FUV, Ferrari is still far from selling over 10k units per year within the EU. So the regulations are different than those applying to large volume manufactures.

If they need to do something with a small displacement V12, I'd want hybrid assist with N/A over turbos any day. Weight penalties are getting smaller, and
The immediate response of both the N/A V12 and electric power, will make for o e insanely responsive car. And noise regulations or not, it will sound better.

N/A V12 and assist will have a throttle response like cracking a whip. Assist or not a turbo FI engine will never flair the same way.

Well not all of us agree. Some may not want more power depending on where they live, while others welcome it.

As great as the 812 is, that thing would be a hoot with the sensation of being shot out of a cannon coming from electric assist. If you step out of an F8 and into an 812, while power to weight is close, the difference in push and torque is noticable. An 812 with the kick of an SF90? I'm fine with that.

Problem is, batteries, high voltage, two drivetrains, no thanks.

The current hybrid Ferraris are all about increasing performance, nothing to do with "passing emissions" testing (because the electric only range is too small to matter at all).

Future emissions regulations (Euro7) could require even Ferrari (small volume manufacturer) to have huge battery packs and tiny combustion engines to pass emissions without substantial penalties which may include 'stop sale' if out of compliance.

So much of what Ferrari will do for new models that are not yet homologated (under previous regulations) closely depends on what happens by end of this year.

That's why the rumored 'reveal' is 2+ years from now, gives plenty of time to adjust that as needed. (Lamborghini V12 hybrid reveal is also 2+ years out...)

If Ferrari really wanted to they could of done a "conventional" new V12 model reveal by now and it would be homologated under current regulations but there is the unknown of how long that car would of been allowed to exist, so, they apparently decided to wait, and at this point, the wait could be forever.

But, they decided to not do that...so despite Leiter's recent claim they are working on a new V12, does not mean it will ever make it to production...

Highways, b-roads, track. Like I said, some areas allow more full throttle than other areas.

I would be fine with less torque and hp if it still had a better ratio than the 812:) 600 hp is fine, as long as the car is light. I make no bones about it - I'm very much into high speed driving. Runs in the family. I get just as excited going fast in a straight line as I do on a twisty track. Nothing better than a wide open Autobahn run.

Unfortunately that seems to only be available in the 'back catalogue'

Ferrari does not seem to have any pressing need to make cars lighter than previous models... the 812c was exceptional in its lack of lightness, especially in comparison to the F12TDF and it does not have an "ev mode".

and, in general, any car with "ev mode" is going to be heavier than anything before (for example, Pista is about 180kg lighter than the SF90, even the 296GTB is heavier than the Pista) (same with McLaren, Artura is heavier, despite having a V6, than the models that precede it)

It would actually be fantastic if they went for an engine similar to the Cosworth in the GMA T50, maybe going 4.5 to 5L and revving up to 11-12k rpms. I would dream about a future with 3.0L 16k rpm redline (maybe in 10-15 years with the actual LAST NA V12s), like the 00's F1 V10. You would just have to straight pipe these things and they would sound magnificient.

Loads of deaths in London from NOX inhalation for families who live by roadsides. We are the dumbest smartest species. I will enjoy my GTS but won’t pretend that we can’t do better as a species LOL. We need to.

The 812SF at 1630Kg{lightest spec) is as heavy as i can cope with mentally for a supercar with sporting pretensions. The replacement will have a much smaller V12(marketing led) with hybrid assist ala 296GTb. The 296 weighs 140kg more than the F8 and i expect the same weight penalty will apply to the 812 replacement.
The 812 is the last of an era and already a classic which reflects in used prices already on the rise here in the UK.A long term keeper if there ever was one IMO.

One thing I'm wondering when we are talking weight. The 812 replacement should be a new platform. I suspect that we will see a lot more use of carbon in the chassis. More than what is used in the SF90. I doubt it will be a CF tub, but they are doing things with compound construction.

    It's already being done:

    https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20151221-the-lethal-effects-of-london-fog

Diesel is majority, and then wood/coal burning fireplaces and then pollution from mainland Europe...road transport from cars using modern Euro6/6d systems are already a solution... takes 28,000 miles of driving for a Ferrari 812SF (pre-GPF) to emit 1gram (.001kg) of particulate pollution. (Post GPF is much further)

and "loads of deaths" is an exaggeration in a city with a population of well over 9 million

NOX deaths/other air-borne pollutants has been decreasing was recently (2017) about 3,800

    https://www.standard.co.uk/futurelondon/theairwebreathe/3-800-deaths-in-london-caused-by-air-pollutant-study-finds-a4345831.html

bizarrely link above shows a Ferrari as its initial image but the 'credit' for those deaths are hardly attributed to cars much less exotics, per the article, primarily due to burning stuff for household heating...
