    I heard that it was 46-years-old. Similarity between that airplane and today's 737s is largely coincidental.

    Scary, I am no pilot but I assume its safe to assume that surviving a water landing in a craft that large is a testament to pilot skill?

    I don't really think so, sorry if that bursts anyone's bubble. I think anyone from a private pilot on up would know to align with the swells, hold it off, touch down as slow as possible and in a nose high attitude, and then you're a passenger from that point on.

    It was at pitch black at night so I'd say so, day time prob not to hard but hope it never happens to me.

    I was also thinking about that. They aren't as large and close to the wing but I'll bet that they bring things to a screeching.....or a splashing halt.

    I was pondering whether they made the situation better because they don't hang as low as a higher by-pass engine nacelle. Would allow the fuselage to absorb more energy before the nacelles dug in.

    Not all aircraft have those same “rules” in the POH so knowing what’s in the 737 operating instructions (I don’t) is important and executing it is a skill.

    Exactly. And in some aircraft a stall on impact will flip you over immediately making survival a much greater challenge. There is a lot of skill required to successfully ditch and survive in some aircraft.
