    I absolutely love Dominus. I’m a bit OCD about vintages. I’ve presently have 1996, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018.

They are all so good. Although the 2013 is supposed to be their best vintage, I’m really liking 2015 and 2016. 2017 is not as good and haven’t tried 2018. The “wine diamonds” you see on the cork, are from a 2011, which was spectacular.

So right off the bat, I noticed the mini wine diamonds. I had a 2011 that had even more. Always a good sign!

Deep ruby color with a pronounced nose and flavors. Baked red fruit flavors to include cordial cherries, raspberry and some black fruit to include black cherry and black berries. I really loved the secondary flavors of pastry dough and a little bit of butter, from what I assume could be either natural yeast and/or malolactic conversion. Also, interesting wet forrest floor, wet leaves and a little bit of leather. This is a high acidity and high tannin dry wine, but on the low end of the high spectrum. Beautiful full body with a long finish. The interplay between flavors and aromas is very balanced. I give this wine a 92-94. Very good wine, however, compared to a 2011, 2013, 2015, and 2016 Dominus, I would say is two notches lower from a flavor intensity perspective. This could be due to the uncharacteristically wet 2007 vintage, which probably served to dilute fruit flavor a bit.

I was in Total Wine and bought the wine I was there for and 3 that the saleswoman recommended. One of the others was Verada pinot noir and I could’ve done without that one too. Can’t wait to try the third!

I’m sticking to Caymus, Conundrum, Prisoner, and Mount Veeder cab for a while.
