They faked that scallop so badly on the sketch. The Kappa 612 is the perfect 612.

296 looks the result of a Ferrari/Ford merger with the Ford team head of design. Someone photoshop a Ford badge on it :).

Also in the sketch the stance is all wrong, the fenders are way over exaggerated, the grill is completely different, the hood is too low, the head lights aren't as crisp, and the A pillars are way too thin for production, and there's a lower aero sill that never made it on the final car.

Also, The driver side fender is a different shape and size compared to the passenger side. LOL. One thing Kappa did was recess the grill further into the grill opening.

Instead of that Sketch Monkey dude, better watch a true pro: Frank Stephenson (a true pro with true Ferrari "history" for that matter):

BTW: I agree with your conclusion, Sir.

That is, IMO, the best looking Ferrari since the 360

Agree, a true work of automotive art. Beautiful.
I do agree with Frank that making bottom of mirror in body color and top in black/CF would be much better...make the mirrors fade into background.

I prefer black roofs on all cab forward designs. But thats what paint is for. I actually like the bottom in black as it reminds me of the rounded tub bottoms of car design before the 90s.

    FERRARI WILL ALWAYS BE FERRARI

Two sports cars with almost thirty years between them.
Two very different cars and still a similar layout.
    Red, exclusive, fast and expensive.

Let's imagine that in 1994 the designers had been given the task of
designing a Ferrari that would hit the market in 2021...
Would they have taken the same taillights as on the F355?
Or would it have been a simple line with two circles on each side?
Or would they have designed the engine cover with slots like on the F355?
Interesting questions that we unfortunately cannot answer today.
But some of the design sketches in 1994 would certainly have been very futuristic ...

And now take a look at the new 296 GTB:
When you look back, you can see the heritage. If you want to see it...
And if you look forward, you can see the future. If you want to see it...

Frank never in his life created something as nice looking as the 296 GTB.

I’m shocked no one has yet mentioned the integrated door handles.
Not a strong suit on the 488/F8.

The more I look at this car the more I like it. I think one of the most clever bits is the Monza inspired black trim on the bottom which slims the hips and makes that ass look even nicer.

    I respectfully disagree, Sir.

Really? Overbloated Enzo. There's nothing ground breaking in the MC12 design.

All good comments but I think since the Roma was created during the Manzoni era he has to be given credit for successfully starting a second design direction for Ferrari to follow simultaneously--a more tame sophisticated direction, almost Jaguarish, Aston Martinish. He realized that a lot of wives put the kibosh on their husband buying a Ferrari because they didn't like the noisy raspy ones with big wings, exhaust vents, gaping scoops, they don't want their 60 year old hubbie driving around a boy racer,,, so this second branch of the family is more subtle but still able to go fast once wifie's at home. For you bachelors you don't know what (hell) you're missing....

As someone who has been married for 25 years and mostly hangs out with other 45 to 65 yo married buddies, I can’t recall a wife ever significantly influencing which sportscar designs we buy.

I like both Pininfarina’s and Manzoni’s works, although some of the recent CS designs don’t appeal as much to me.

Your description of Ferrari design is more Lamborghini than Ferrari - the only Ferrari with big wings I can recall are the F40 and F50, not the regular Ferrari...
