    Greetings all
With all the threads I read on this forum, I started to think about how often everyone changes the oil on their 328? I know many of us don't put a ton a miles on the car per year, so I assume "time" is more of a consideration. So just curious, what guidelines do you go by? How "long" would you leave oil in your car before changing it or would you start to worry about it?

    Happy 4th of July ;-)

Every two years. Used to do it annually but decided it was ridiculous for a car driven 500 miles per year.

Once a year or 3,000 miles, whichever occurs first. I never go longer than a year.

Once a year. If you don't drive your car much, but you do start it up and move it around every couple of weeks, then there is a lot of water content inside the engine. The best way to get rid of that is to change the oil. So not driving it a lot is actually worse for the engine.

I used to do oil changes annually but my opinion/practice changed some years ago. I have done oil analysis tests on the Mobil 1 0W40 in my 328 and even after 3 years on one test, the oil analysis was OK. My plan was to change it when the analysis suggested it (as is typically done in the marine and fleet world) but I couldn't come to grips with 3+ years so I generally change it and the brake fluid/antifreeze every couple of years...when the mood strikes me! ;)

However, like many other aspects of maintenance/care - do what YOU are comfortable doing!

We had the results of an oil test of a CAT D399 generator, not up on hours for an oil change but well diluted with diesel according to the results.. When we pulled the paper filter cartridges they fell apart in my hands, we were lucky the paper did not go down the gallery

like our friends above, i changed the oil in gabriella every year, always with brad-penn 10w-40 semi-syn.
in addition, i sent a sample to blackstone labs in indianapolis. also the gearbox oil which was redline mtl.

now that she is no longer mine i could only pass this info on to the new owner. he impresses me as a very stand-up sort.

and yes, her last year with me was only about 250mi. so i passed on the oil change.
