Only a football thing. England haven’t won a tournament since 1966 but we’re starting to get hopeful at the Euro championships… we had a great win last night so I’m pretty happy about that! There’s a football song about football ‘coming home’ since we supposedly invented it (soccer). We’ve been singing it for a long time haha!! Hopefully we’ll be able to stop soon.

Buying a car is mission specific and personal. No point in telling people in a sense saying my car is better than yours and you should experience or get one..people in this forum know their stuff . a pattern of going off topic to steer towards 765 has emerged in this forum on numerous occasios. We get it.. you love them and they are fast. Good for you. Now back to why everyone eventually wants a Ferrari lol.

No one is saying that at all - you're just imagining things and then adding your own twist to suit your own pathetic cause. And people on this forum know their stuff? Yeah right. Pull the other leg. If that was the case you wouldn't be saying what you are now and, there wouldn't be the level of misinformation which surfaces.

And this everybody wants a Ferrari story? Mate I already own one of the best Ferrari's made but I'm not running around with a set of blinkers on like you seem to be.

So tell me why wouldn't everybody want a Bugatti Veyron or a Pagani Huayra or a ...... Hmm?

Oh sorry because it's not a Ferrari right? So they couldn't possibly be any good.

Design? No. I am talking entirely about the driving experience. Less weight being the key factor. I’m sure the tuning is also a factor.

Warning- Please do not laud brands other than Ferrari, since it is a truism that every single human wants a Ferrari. If they do not confess to that fact, clearly they are being deceitful. I gave up my F8 for the 765. Perhaps I will atone for this egregious error in judgment by purchasing the 296. I could if I wanted to, but I don't want to.

This will check the non vintage Ferrari box plus the 296 and the venerable Pista and yes so far have cooler FNA owner events at least in my area. ( Experienza Ferrari) and launch events. i have to discover first this STO experience to the fullest before even thinking 296 if ever. Second or third year versions are often the smarter move. Also this 600-750 K+ range is getting crazy expensive, not even limited series but yolo. Photo from FNE.

Funny, I’ve never even thought to open the engine lid on my F8 Spider. After seeing that photo, I probably never will!

If you already own a Pista then definitely go with 296 . The latest and greatest may surprise you. or get the glorious 812 for a completely different experience.

True, but then not being able to see the engine hasnt stopped anyone from buying GT2RS’s :D

Ps …thanks for clearing up my previous question and congratulations on the win!

This came up on my YouTube feed this morning (no doubt it did for others here too). I thought it was interesting. Frank Stephenson designed the 430 but also spent an important stint at McLaren and did the 650, 675. P1 from memory. Not sure about 720 but I suspect he left having begun that project.

Anyhow, he seems to like the car and although I don’t agree with all his points, he makes some interesting ones. Some of them coincide with views here, some don’t. His ‘altered’ design is interesting but, as you would expect from a few minutes’ drawing, his version doesn’t look too resolved to me, though I take some of his points, such as what he says about round rear lights. Also interesting to note he prefers black roof, just like the SF90. I agree on the SF90 but not so much here.

However, what I thought was more interesting was not whether he liked it or not (subjective) or whether his altered version was better (again subjective) but what he noticed about the design (and therefore any design) as being important.

One other point not really mentioned on this thread when comparing 296 to the V8s is the advantages of a V6 engine. The disadvantages are obvious - V8 has more cylinders, more cylinders usually equals ‘better’ for car lovers and the Ferrari V8 dates back to the early 70’s - 50 years of mostly brilliant cars.

But a V6 is an interesting configuration, especially when mated to a hybrid system. Any configuration of cylinders that can be divided by three is inherently smoother than a configuration of two, therefore, 3, 6, 12 is always smoother than 2, 4 or 8. For the V6 you could think ‘mini V12’, whereas that does not apply to a V8. Clearly a V6 is no V12, but the character is more like that than a V8. A V6 also weighs less usually and is normally shorter - better for packaging. Speaking as an about-to-be owner of the V8 SF90 (literally today!), it would surprise me not a bit if the 296 turns out to be the sweeter handler of the two cars. Does the fact that F1 is V6 hybrid bode well for what they have done with the 296? Can’t hurt can it?

I’ve already said I won’t be a buyer of 296 because I have bought SF90, but if they did a ‘Pista’ version, given I like to try different stuff, that might prove irresistible. 880hp with 100kg less and a more aggressive drive from a smooth V6 power train. I’ll definitely be wanting to know what that feels like.

Problem is that they wont find 100kg, these hybrids generally come with a lot of weight. I doubt Ferrari will switch to a mostly carbon car as it would push the price way too high for the baby brother model.

It may be the best way forward in trading out of the SF90. Put your order in now, enjoy the SF whilst you wait for the 296 to come through and then move it on. It's clear the 296 is going to be the better drivers car out of these two. 296 is lighter and not that much less powerful so the power to weight will be very similar.

Excellent advice. Hard to see how the SF90 could be the better driving car and the 296 is a fraction of the price.

I think their “fun to drive” marketing scheme is somewhat ironic. They mention shortening the wheelbase to make it nimble, emphasize the need for sound, and made other tweaks to liven up the car...go-kart-like.
So....what is the F8? Not nimble? Poor noise? Not “fun to drive?”
Their marketing cuts both ways. :)

Seems that Ferrari is finally aware of the criticism that the latest cars, while technically capable, are bereft of emotional engagement. Consequently, an emphasis on " Fun to Drive." The new slogan is implicitly suggesting that the previous generation was somewhat lacking in that regard.
