So, I caught my passenger side mirror on one of the posts of a lift and scratched it up. What is the path to fix? Can. something like this be repainted? I'd rather ask the internet before taking it to my dealer...

    thx!!

If it’s just a scratch and the mirror itself is still working fine, any good body shop should be able to fix it.

If you can post a picture, that would be helpful. Usually if it's paint transfer (meaning the color of whatever you hit transferred onto the surface of your car's paint), then it's typically pretty easy to buff that out with some compound and a rag, etc. A lot depends on the actual damage. If it's down through the clear coat and into the color layer, most any body shop can probably mask off just the mirror area and spray it.

I feel your pain. One time I was going like 90 or 100 MPH on the highway and two lanes suddenly merged into more like 1.5 lanes. That wouldn't have been an issue in and of itself, but the Santa Cruz hippie in the old broken down pickup truck, who was barely doing 55 MPH a few car lengths ahead of me, panicked when he saw the merging stuff and decided the answer to was hit the brakes and swerve over into my lane; this caused me to have to dart to the left to avoid him and when I did, my driver's side mirror clipped one of those tall orange pylons on the edge of the road (it's a miracle I didn't hit the concrete wall thing).

At around 100 MPH, that's a pretty major hit to a side mirror. At first, I thought it had ripped the mirror clean off the car, because when I looked over I didn't see it any longer. However, after a 1/4 mile or so, I looked again and noticed it had just been hit and folded in. Luckily, the previous owner had put 3M tape on the mirror, but it still took a bit of a beating.

Anyway, if you're down to the black plastic (and you're sure it's not just paint transfer from the post), then that's probably going to require a little bit of sanding and re-spraying. The good news is that it can probably be done relatively inexpensively. I'm sure a new side mirror from Ferrari isn't cheap, not to mention labor to install it.

    But yeah, that sucks.

My advice, figure out which paint shop your local Ferrari dealership is using and swing by and see if someone is willing to do a quick repair without taking the mirror off.
