And Nelson might also rhetorically ask at the same family barbecue, “Why does my potential son-in-law Max V look like he could be straight out of the movie ‘Deliverance?’
That was in 2015, after he received an award of some sort (at the university of Bologna if I'm not mistaken). The full quote can be translated more or less in: "Social media gives legion of idiots the right to speak, when they once only spoke at a bar, after one glass too many, but without harming the community...but now they have the same right to speak as a Nobel Prize winner: it's the invasion of the imbeciles" It made some sort of polemic at the time. absolutely guys. The legion of morons that hide under false identities allows them to let their insane voices be heard,
Another thing regarding clothes, remember what just about everyone says the moment Kai Ebel or Eddie Jordan appears on TV
Of course you are allowed think like that.. But I think anonimity is essentiel on social media for people to express their opinions, and some thoughts to emerge in public, without their authors being at risk of being stabbed in the street or having their house firebombed . We are living in dangerous times, where some people cannot control their violent impulses.
The whole "cancel culture" is largely to blame for nonsense like this. When people where all on facebook en masse, they'd often kept their (real) thoughts to themselves. Then arrived Twitter and they didn't need their real name to interact with just anyone. That was a big change as suddenly opinions where brought out into the open, taken seriously, and others acted on it. Many people that used their real name with their real opinions have, especially in recent years, arrived at their job only to have been fired due to cancel culture people having phoned their employers. Or worse, as you say, with violence or firebombed homes etc. I understand why people go anonymous on the internet, my problem lies with the current culture of people going to the extreme to stop someone having thoughts they don't agree with.
See the "Mila" trial in France, for which the verdict has been given this week. A difficult case, not to be discussed here; furthermore, it would clearly be P & R, so against the rule...but for which anonymity has played a great part: those who campaigned the death threats against her were not only ashamed when caught, but did it thanks to anonymity: they all said to the judges that "I didn't realize what I was writing": trying to avoid conviction of course, but they ruined the girl's day-to-day life under the cover of anonymity... Rgds
Anonimity works both ways; it protects a potential victim of harrassment, but also the perpetrators . The authorities have the means to identity the guilty party, but it takes time.
100%! I won't discuss it further here though for the P&R reasons, but thanks for posting it, I wasn't aware of it.
Hamilton needs to earn his respect, you're only as good as your last race. Hamilton has talked a good game about wanting competition when he has had Max in his pocket but now at the time he's actually got a proper fight on his hand he has basically admitted defeat already. I have a feeling that with George Russell joining him it's going to be a painful retirement for Hamilton, if I'm being honest I can't see him winning another title.
Hamilton wants competition as long as he’s winning, otherwise it’s (insert car issue, engineer, strategy, etc) issue. Never he didn’t perform, it’s almost like MB is coddling him.
Yep it just sounds like sour grapes. When Max was the one nipping at the heels last season he just got on with it like a trooper and drove flat out with full conviction every time. Don't get me wrong, Hamilton is a great driver but he's been massively flattered by the car and has had Bottas in his pocket for half a decade. He's looked amazing because Bottas is so poor in the races. He will be in for a rude awaken I feel when Russell steps up to the plate.
I don’t get the Russell hype, he hasn’t done anything to prove he’s better than anyone especially bottas
You don't get the hype? He jumped in a car that he couldn't even fit in properly and completely dominated Bottas in the race. That alone tells you how good he is, did exactly the same as what Hamilton does.
Russell is probably good, but to assume that he is better than Bottas or equal to Hamilton on the strength of a one off outing is a bit hasty ! I think Toto Wolff will be a bit more circumspect..
