F8 or STO?

Dang it, I may have to change my spec now.

 

No one wants to do that, unless you have no choice. With these new engines, they are relatively water resistant , except of course the intakes to the engine. Even touchless car washes are tricky. My other car engines with seeping salt deposits after winter season, doesnt seem to mind a good cleaning. No distributors, ignition coils and shody electric design. Modern engines can tolerate cleaning better than older ones.

She said wash by hand only we dont want water going into the openings and onto the engine. The video was about what owners have to be careful in doing. Either way girls like that scare me.

 

Even though part of owning a super car is the experience of hand washing the car yourself.. I purchased the 5 year warranty and maintenance for the STO as it's Matte Verde Gea same colour as the launch colour Sian. Not confident enough with washing Matte paint + the mentioned above, even though im getting it PPF.

 

F8 if you want a car you can use for anything other than Point A to Point A or track driving. The tiny storage space that can just fit a helmet is a deal-breaker for me. If I wanted a more track-focused car, it would be a 765LT.

This is what i use for the rest of the car, except extra care in the engine bonnet area and intakes. Proper settings used. Used to apply shampoo and rinsing But clean by hand only.

 

It did sound great up the hill

765lt would have everything and then some over the STO in every metric. 765 is just one of those incredible cars. Problem I found with STO is the ergonomic for those of us over 5'10" is very limiting, added to the fact you simply can't see out the back of it making for very problematic parking and general traffic negotiation. So its road use becomes highly questionable. It's certainly not a car you could take the wife away in for an overnight country blast as there's simply no room to put anything.

So it comes down to how much you plan using an STO on circuit. I think the only advantage the STO seems to hold over the Gt3 evo is that you can at least register it and drive it too and from the track. But essentially STO's best purpose remains as being for track use going by what I personally found after spending considerable time going over and sitting in the car. And then you keep arriving at the same conclusion how is it possibly going to prove better or more exciting to drive than a 765lt on track anyway.

At the moment there are unanswered questions there, but one things for certain ergonomically STO is certainly very challenged unless you are pretty short and slim. No question about that fact - certainly not from what I've experienced so far. So on that score one may well find the F8 the superior choice where 765 is not available. 765 wears all hats. Maybe not as well as an F8 as a DD but its very daily drive-able in comfort mode. STO otoh is a one trick pony in the sense it would be very challenging to live with in any form of street environment, so has only the track day use as its suit. But then you have 765lt along with all the current 911 rs's inc the new 992gt3 and with 992 3RS next to surface.

 

Awaiting the hot lap time of the STO driven by Christian Gebhardt for Hockenheim circuit for SportAuto last June16.— result is still in embargo. The STO is behind in “metrics” but the key is drivability. Rooting for the underdog of course.

 

Lease one? They catch fire whether they are owned or leased, and they are ugly whether they are owned or leased.

 

Jcmd is better off in the STO as the 765 could well give him a cardiac arrest. And I completely disagree about his drag strip take. Total nonsense. There is so much more to a 765 than being just a point and shoot even though it does slaughter just about everything else on the strip.

Where the 765 really shines is through corners and on country back-roads, race track etc. It has set a very high bar with driver connection/controls, telepathic feedback, and overall very high emotion. And, a 6'+ foot tall person can fit into it and get the perfect driving position. The seats are also much better than the STO i found as is the general ergonomic, front and rearward vision etc. No comparison actually. These elements make a huge difference and are not to be underestimated.

For those who are emotionally and inextricably vested to one brand of super car, specifically Ferrari, avoid driving the 765 at all costs. Emotional turmoil will be the result. Better to claim you have driven it (when in reality you haven't) and then assert that while it is a capable car and you can understand why its owners like it, but it simply is not for you due to the aesthetics and there is something special about being behind the wheel of a car that has the prancing horse on it.

 

McLaren tweaked the gear ratios and increased the turbo boost to be quick off the line, and they did well for the drag times and straight line speed. Thats great until you hit the corners. If the car scares you by wagging its tail with quick steering inputs then you back off and become unsure. It was reported that the electronics was not able to handle a power slide as well as comparable mid engine sports car( F for example), hence a slightly less better lap time vs 720S. Agree that Huracan driver position/ visibilty is not as pleasant as....Porsche which hits the sweet spot. When the reviewers say that the 720S is the king of the segment despite the 765LT there is something head scratching about that( Chris Harris). See also Topgear, SportAuto). My Ferrari friend got his 720S and says there is nothing to improve on his experience with his car( unless you do the 1/4 mile thing). Doesn't matter, we wont be as good a driver than the reviewer's and professional race car drivers to fully understand all this. lest we crash and kill ourselves. And yes tall and heavy drivers is not ideal for sports cars for power to weight ratios and ergonomics( i think the benchmark driver dimension is up to 5'11 for Porsche anyways).. so loose weight lol. Anyway, again the thread is F8 or STO and the 765LT crowd manages to take over and constantly need to repeatedly justify their choice in a Ferrari forum. they are better said( they already have) in the Pista-STO-AMG BS 765LT thread. I sure hope the STO gets better lap times and reviews vs 765LT, maybe that will do the trick, but if it does not.. I will enjoy owning the car anyway.

I passed a F8 a week back and I can't really recall the last time a f-car passed me that felt so soulless. YES I am all about sound and even though F8 is the most beautiful Ferrari made on the 458 platform inside out and drives great (really fun to drive) I just could not resist to think that I was more then happy to sit in my old dated Superleggera as it got tons of SOUL (will never part with it). Really surprised how quite the F8 was (as quiet as an electric car) as the press cars I listened to and drove was another story....

 

I have to say, listening to you discuss cars is like listening to the high school nerd, many years later, regale his buddy’s with tall tales involving sexual encounters with the captain of the cheerleading team. It’s humorous and all, but the lack of any authentic carnal knowledge makes the account ring hollow.
