F355 Market

I dont think I could live without one..If i ever sell one I'm back for another!

 

Potential buyers here have mentioned something along the lines of, "If prices don't come back down, I'll have to start looking for an alternative."

Alternative like what? I'm curious. I'm open to ideas. Better yet, what alternative from the 90's (same era)?

At sub $100k, there's not many choices.

 

Pass on all of those. I have not owned the Lambo, but not really interested. The others do not give you what the 355 does - period. You can own the others, but once you have the 355 and the proper exhaust, my 18 year old daughter even gets it. We went on date night last Friday and she was smiling every time I hit the throttle. She totally gets it. She has ridden in my ZR-1’s, Porsches, BMW’s and Benz’s all from the 80’s and 90’s and she says the Ferrari is the only keeper. Nuff’ Said [emoji41]

I owned one for a short time. Very cool car.

 

Gong show of a car compared to the composed nature of a 355.

I've had one for a short while, and if I still had one, I'd be getting in the 355 every time.

Given the advice here and the apparent condition of that vehicle (based entirely on the pictures) it was probably well bought.

 

For me the real competition would be a modern Cayman GTS/4 (with the 4.0). Not really a fair comparison given the 25 year age difference, but in the $100-110k bracket it is a stellar sportscar.
Maybe a C8 if the Z06 pans out to be what everyone hopes.

As far as 90s cars, I'd have to look at the original competition and say a NSX. It doesn't have the panache of a F355, but took the world by storm for a reason 25 years ago.

 

I agree. Most logical comparable sub $100k (some) is the NSX, which I think is a good buy for a car in the right condition.

 

Cayman S/GTS is a spectacular car. GT4 I haven't driven but I imagine it's damn near perfection.
I have had a deposit on the C8 Z06 for 6 months now. Different class of car however...and seems to be delayed til 2023 now.

Neither have the panache of an F355 though regardless.

Hum, prices too high, buyers looking for other options. Looks like a top to me.

 

Then don’t go drive one, the Diablo is an amazing car to drive and own, but as others said, left the sub-$100k club in 2014 (when I was looking some Diablos and later 355s were priced within $10-15k of each other so I drove both multiple times) and never looked back. Everything you could ask for in a true icon.

Other $100k options? 575 with a tasty V12? I’ve had a Jones for a 5th gen Viper for awhile, they can be had for that with miles. Porsche 997.1 GT3 is close even in an inflated market......fun car to drive.

 

Agreed on exclusivity and looks. But a warranty and modern amenities would take out some of the sting

I had the opportunity to drive a GT4 and GT3 back to back recently. I preferred the GT3 based primarily on the engaging sound, but left it out of this conversation solely based on price. The GT4 was stellar (two guys I was with, preferred it to the GT3). It is precise and incredibly sharp. I haven't driven the 718 GTS and would worry the "softness" of the luxe features would further dampen the experience.

I'll have to experience the C8 for myself. It is Ferrariesque in it's lines (forgive the rear end) and should be a stellar performer, but the lack of a manual and the markups that will probably take another 3-5 years to dissipate will keep it out of my garage.

997.1 GT3 is a phenomenal car. Buddy has one. Definitely not the same as a 355 but if you're looking for an engaging, largely analogue driving experience it's hard to beat.

 

997.1 GT3 is a good choice.

991.1 GT3 is a good choice if one is going for paddles.

575… you’d have to compare F1 prices to F1 355 prices and manual to manual. Manual 575 prices are up there.

If you can find a decent F1 F430 around $70-80k in today’s market … drop another $30k for a manual conversion.

 

But not available at $100k price point. I haven't seen any F430s below $100k either. Can you share a recommended resource?

Q4 of 2019, just before the craziness hit, there were some decent, albeit higher mileage, 430's for sale.

Almost bought one then backed away.....damn.

Prices are all over the map now.....

 

I've also got a 997.1 GT3 right now. Fantastic car...I'd sell it for $110k USD if someone here wants it though.

Damn those have heavy clutches (my left knee couldn’t stand to many shifts at a time) but great feel. Awesome cars......bravo to Porsche.

 

As a former 996 GT3 owner (and once avid DE'er), I'd have to chime in with my opinion that our F355 is in a completely different realm as these GT3- which are track monsters and despise routine daily drives. Whereas the F355 has the sporty look but not the cutting edge, track-focused drive feel but to pedestrian on-lookers they see and hear sporty greatness.

Now sad to say, my F355 is now being offered for sale after 5 yrs ownership. Posted in F-Chat Classified first, as I also took it from this board.
