Three days to go and this 575M F1 is at £75,500 (£80,030 incl). https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/2003-ferrari-575m-maranello-3 Smashing the previous high for this type of car on CC. Yet again dealers must be looking at this and scratching their heads. I certainly am.
As someone here said about BAT in the US, there are lots of people with lots of money who want a hassle free purchase process. Amazon. Many car dealers come across as difficult, cultish, smug, incompetent, uninterested, vague, or patronising, to new buyers. Or worse. So, why not just do the Collecting Cars Click and Collect? I wouldn't, and nor would you. But there's not much point huffing and puffing and saying the market is wrong. These people are actually buying cars from vendors, rather than providing the commentary.
Wrong? I don't think there is a right or wrong. There are two willing participants, a buyer and a seller. I think we're witnessing an asset bubble of an unprecendented type that has been created by an exceptionally unusual set of circumstances. As individuals we choose to take part or watch from the sidelines. My choice is the latter. While documenting/commenting on what I see. Frankly there's little else to do on some evenings. I don't really watch TV and I can only manage 4 days at the gym in my 50's - I simply don't recover as quickly as I used to! I do however agree on the dealer description, I don't like dealing with them and it's one of the reasons I prefer to buy new cars.
In fairness, the very basis of this (long running) thread is to offer a commentary on the market. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Next up on CC another 575 F1, previously discussed on this thread. I made a couple of offers on this car last year, it was the one with substantially most of the service history missing. The owner had spent some time inside and the car was being sold by the storage firm. https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/2002-ferrari-575m-maranello-2 In the sold section here:- https://carvaultco.com/cars-for-sale/ I was told (by carvault) it eventually went in to the trade at £63,000.
Very late CY 2002 with SN in the 130xxx range. In the US that would have been a MY03. The modulars were not available until around 130xxx. Some nice features.
Remind me Taz how the SNs relate to the assembly numbers? You have explained before but I always forget!
Darius- Serial numbers are part of the order process and are assigned when the Ferraris are ordered. Assembly numbers are assigned when the Ferrari reaches the assembly line. If the Ferrari had some options or pieces not currently in stock, reaching the assembly line can be delayed and the assembly number can be quite far removed from other Ferraris with similar serial numbers. Ferrari also has a tendency to sometimes group similar models together on the assembly line for efficiency, so that also affects the assembly number.
Thank you. And assembly number is a true indication of when each car is made, compared to other Ferraris? So number 5001 was preceded down the line by 5000 and followed by 5002? Regardless of actual model and S/N? last question: when revisions are introduced by Ferrari onto a particular model, do they start from a certain S/N or A/N?
Darius- In general, yes. Revisions to Ferraris have been done by assembly number, serial number, engine number, transaxle number, and even model year for US Ferraris. Here is a list of 575M updates as an example. Later Ferrari models tended to be more by SN, which really makes no sense, but the F430 has lots of revisions by SN and MY. Also attached is a couple of F430 update lists.
Thanks Taz, the 430 list is useful to me too. I wonder how frequently the changes are actually downgrades not upgrades. Such as sometimes with Motronic. I guess generally they are improvements.
Another 575M F1 on Collecting Cars. Not one I recognise. https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/2003-ferrari-575m-maranello-4
It was for sale at Exo Prestige between March 2019 and November 2020, initially asking £119994 then £109994. I don't believe it sold and it looks like they are the seller now. Not taxed for 5 years.
2003 manual with 29k miles. Just closed at $202k. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2003-ferrari-575-maranello-22/
575M F1 number 3 pending on CC - Been for sale a Bell Classics for a while and they're listing on CC. Roll cage which is an unusual option. https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/2003-ferrari-575m-maranello-5
Modulars and Daytonas, yes, but no FHP or leather shelf? What would you say options are in terms of desirability, in order? 1. HTGC 2. FHP (mutually exclusive) 3. Modulars 4. Daytonas 5. Leather shelf Then things like shields, hi fi, etc?
Darius- Many 3 pedal 575Ms had very limited options. By 2003, FHP was not as big a deal as in 2002 because of improved shock ECUs, but still desirable. HGTC is by far the most premium and desirable option, only available late, and included modulars, CCMs, better F1 shifting and a host of other things. Modulars were not available until around SN 130xxx, but do offer more tire choices. More a matter of taste, but offer more brake options, too. FHP is valuable if just for the steering ECU. Many could not stand the squealing brakes, but that faded with break-in. Mine rarely squealed at 15,000+ miles Leather shelf and then Daytonas, mine had neither. Shields are considered a necessity by some, but others (like me) are highly ambivalent about them. Likely would not order them on a new Ferrari. Carbon fiber option is highly desirable, and 3 pedals come with that gorgeous shift knob. Interior color is really important to some buyers, with Cuoio and Beige in the US and Crema in the UK bringing extra attention. Post AN 52556 should be highly desirable because of the steering position sensor and 50 amp F1 relay, but most buyers do not know that. FHP really not needed with late 575Ms (13518x). Colored brake calipers really show off the brakes in red, yellow, or silver. Rest are just personal choice.
550 at Silverstone Auctions tomorrow - Japan Import https://www.silverstoneauctions.com/sa076-lot-16591-1997-ferrari-550-maranello?el=16591&pn=1&pp=100 I noted there was a 575 SA that went unsold there today - Buy it now for £230K. Did anyone happen to see what it was bid up to? https://www.silverstoneauctions.com/sa076-lot-16587-2007-ferrari-575-superamerica-f1?el=16587&pn=1&pp=100 Off topic - my personal "bedroom poster" car was for sale there today which also went unsold. Most kids wanted a Countach or a Testarossa - I wanted an X-Pack Vantage and still do. These are now beyond my means and at a value that I'd be too nervous to drive anywhere or leave anywhere. https://www.silverstoneauctions.com/sa076-lot-16667-1990-aston-martin-v8-vantage-coupe-x-pack-manual?el=16667&pn=1&pp=100
