Yes...forgot to add the NA bit to my post, but that was implied

IMO it would work quite easy, with the 15K RPM limit, they would produce over 900hp (reasonably educated guess given that their first 3 liter V10 had 700bhp at 15500 rpm, 25 years have passed, a full liter more to play with and massive improvements made in tolerances, fueling etc...in fact i feel 900 is a rather low estimate!), let the engines last 5 races or so and they'd do it easily. Cost to produce the engines would be pretty low, loads cheaper to current cost that's for sure. I would say an easy saving of 70% if not more...

And I'm convinced that viewing numbers would rise substantially.

Most manufacturers wouldn't like it because it's not ''relevant''. Go to Formula E for that. Adios.

Do I need to go on? It's as good as a spec engine. Fixed materials, fixed crank angle, fixed weight, fixed RPM. Any of these manufacturers could produce them and make money.

Fact of the matter is, with budget cap this becomes attractive for just about any customer team in F1 (and yes, Ferrari too). More popularity of F1 = more money flowing into the sport = more profit.

If anything, with no enormous Power Unit costs associated with entering the sport, I could see more teams and perhaps even a manufacturer or two enter the sport.

 

Well Lewis has a few bucks stashed away, perhaps he could fund the new formula? Call it Formula Lew or FLew.

Impressive list, but Ferrari is a constructor, not an engine builder only.

Some of them are only building engines they haven't designed others are not much active anymore, but never mind ...

But try to be realistic for once. Has a return to V22 NA been ever considered during the last conference ? Has anyone even mentioned it? Who would propose it ? I don't think the idea is a starter frankly, even it it's one of your dreams.

 

The only one that hasn't made a racing engine in that list recently is Zytek, which was sold to Continental a few years ago, something I wasn't aware of until just now.

There are still 9 perfectly good suppliers on that list. What is your point exactly that Ferrari is a constructor? Ferrari supplies Alfa and Haas including themselves. They're perfectly capable of manufacturing the engines so I have no idea what your point was.

Red Bull has said the new engine needs to be exciting in order to draw in people. I present you an exciting engine formula. What else do you want? This is an F1 forum where we discuss F1 related things.

 

Mecachrome is subcontracting for Renault.
Gibson is using a Nissan design.
Cosworth, etc ....
None oft hem has shown any intention, proposed any design, or lobbied the FIA for the adoption of a V12 NA formula.

It seems to me, that the FIA has moved with the time, and has no intention to go back to past eras. Some nostalgics are asking for a return to past technology , but that is not echoed by the partciipants. As far as I am aware, and you may know different, no company attending the last FIA round table asked to abandon the hybrid engines, to go back to atmo V12.

This discussion reminds me of the resistance from the steam buffs when the railway was electrified, circa 1960s, that was also a rearguard battle.

Come on, this is F1. I'm sure they can engineer and audio enhancement unit on the car that is programmed to replicate the v12 sound. A speaker and amp unit could be engineered to be a light weight. You can even change the software to replicate v12, v10, or v8s from race to race.

Why not, it would add variety to a dull grid. The current engine technical regulations prohibits such enterprise. I could tell you which engine was approaching in the golden days, now i cannot tell the difference between a blow fly or a V6,

What @Bas is proposing is for an F1 series strictly regulated to NA ICE units AND an F1 supremo to dictate such formula. Redbull would immediately jump on board....possibly Ferrari.

Horner wants louder engines by 2025 under the current F1 platform.....understandable....but unfortunately Redbull doesn't dictate the global perspective from an automobile platform.

The delima is the European car manufacturers like Mercedes, Renault, Porsche and/or Audi whom all want to leave a ZERO carbon footprint from a global perspective since the EU community wants to go fully electric by 2030(???).

So currently and going forward we F1 enthusiasts better enjoy F1 in it's current form as these hybrid platforms will morph into something else. Btw, there's already an LMP1 car using hydrogen technology.

 

Honestly the NA ICE stands no chance; it's the least efficient power unit.

 

Yes it is from a global perspective with regards to V10's or V12's and major European car manufacturers.

BUT engine manufacturers like Cosworth and others aren't looking at the zero carbon footprint ideology for billions of people.

 

Can't buy full slicks for the road, either, yet we have those.
