Being on these super car forums serves 2 functions - entertainment and edification. Many posts are enlightening and often amusing due to the fact that diverse opinions are expressed about cars that are actually driven by those writing about them. A read on the owners' differing preferences and priorities proves enlightening. Reading posts from those who either do not own any cars and /or have never driven any of the cars under discussion, but pretend they do and profer endless "reviews" of them, serves no salient purpose These individuals do not contribute any value since their opinions are not based on personal experience but rather on car magazine reviews or second hand information from others. For those who have this inexplicable need to feed their egos, calling them out or simply activating the ignore function appears to be the prudent course of action.

It is unfortunate that your wife does not participate in the hobby that brings you so much joy. At least she does not actively impede upon your ownership of these marvelous rolling works of art. My wife has no interest in the technology or details of these cars but she loves looking at them, accompanying me to dealer events and car shows but above all, driving in them.

If it wasn't for the 765, I would have ordered the STO. Once you experience the 765, all others are no longer of interest. Perhaps an addition but never a replacement. Until I actually drive the STO, a definitive conclusion cannot be asserted.

After owning the Performante and extensive driving of the EVO AWD and RWD, there is no doubt the STO will be very special.

For many, the purchase of a specific brand of super car is based upon emotion and justified by logic. And some are honest enough to openly admit this. Whatever enhances the individual ownership experience should not be condemned. Obsessive torching of a competing brand without a basis rooted in personal experience is not only unjustified, it is uncalled for.

We are all free to like or not like whatever car brand we want for whatever reason we want....whether my reason is justification for you is immaterial to me. Look at it this way, I don't have to eat a crap sandwich to know I don't want one.

There are plenty of guys that dismiss Porsche because they are "boring", plenty of guys that dismiss Lamborghini because of the "gold chain" or "they don't race" stereotypes. I'm one of those who just doesn't yet trust the McLaren brand. I've read, seen, and heard of more owner complaints about the brand over the past decade than Lamborghini and Ferrari put together. And corporate McLaren seems to throw gasoline on the fire at times, instead of helping. They have had massive financial issues, even our local (previously standalone) dealer was sold to the Lamborghini dealer.

Just in the last page or two, a 650S owner made some observations about his experience....and was promptly jumped on by other posters....that was crazy. The behavior in this thread should be embarrassing to all of us.

I'm glad you like your 765LTs, I wish nothing but the best ownership experience for all of you (especially Cadster, my FGT brother). But if someone doesn't want one, or buys one and doesn't bond with it.......that should be OK on a Ferrari forum.

Would love to see this thread get back to the "F8 or STO" title subject.

Clearly everyone has their individual reasons for purchasing or not purchasng a specific car or brand. No issues with that. It is the fixation of unrelenting attacks towards an unfavourable brand is where my complaint lies. Diverse views, and preferences are taken for granted and are welcome.

From my viewpoint, the “fixation of unrelenting attacks”, have been mostly from McLaren owners....for example the treatment of Dustman, who certainly has the resources to sample whatever he wants

What’s amusing (slightly) is that I haven’t seen any attacks, I must have the offenders on ignore.
I’m happy to share my experiences, regardless of what others think, in the spirit of passing on insights in case they are helpful in their ownership decisions.
Also, I am a true car nut, and there are certainly a few here that are great to correspond with.

Closer to being back on topic…anyone see Matt Farraha’s review of the new 911 GT3 Touring? The car sounded very good!

It sounded great. Apparently they’ve improved/amplified the intake noise heard from within the cockpit. That sound was always my favourite part of the driving experience in my .2 3RS, particularly at around 4K RPM. Hoping for something similar in this GT3.

I do not recall attacks from exclusive McLaren owners. Those who were dubious about the veracity of the driving experience of the individuals negatively predisposed to the 765, were current or previous owners of many brands including Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche etc.

I did not use the term “exclusive”. I also didn’t mention former or current Yugo owners, who may have negative feelings about the brand.....but they can be an angry lot.

Those who own many super cars from differing manufacturers are clearly not brand centric. They are unbias in their ownership choice and can appreciate the diverse offerings available, while still having favourites. There are however, those who are whetted to a single brand for a variety of reasons, and will not ever consider a purchase from any other. They are part of the group that is generally highly critical of the cars from brands other than their own.

I dont disagree with what you wrote but the comment above is just not an accurate representation of what occurred. You cannot on one hand say that posters here are overzealous in their praise of Mclaren but at the same time complain that those same people are overly critical of a Mclaren 650.

    So yes quite accurate.....see above.

So until the topic gets back on the subject, I've made the points I wanted to.

Shadows style of response is clearly known and putting that aside his comments were more about the Pista than the 765. And GH was bashing on Mclaren for putting out a crappy product in the 650 relative to their current offerings. And the current offering - the 765 is what Italytrotter was commenting on.

I get there is a lot of praise on the 765 here from owners but if someone (Italytrotter in this case) specifically mentions said car and people simply respond to the comment, people get up in arms over it as unnecessary praise for Mclaren. Makes no sense.

Lets agree to disagree on your assessment.

While the topic of this thread is F8- STO, as soon as a post appears referencing another make such as the 765 or the GT3, that naturally invites commentary that will expand the original subject. And why not ? This is after all a forum about Ferraris and high end cars. It is not as if the topic switched to watches and garden supplies.

It seems that anyone who does not own a Mclaren 765 , has never driven a Mclaren 765 , has no intention of driving a Mclaren 765 can say whatever they want about said brand and its cars - but the moment someone who actually owns the car comments to clarify- that is not allowed because it derails the thread.

Keep up with the rules would ya!

You did nothing of the sort. When a post links the 650 to the 765, it invites a response and yours was unquestionably acceptable.
