Mercedes braced for ‘bruised’ Red Bull to fight back in Hungary By: Luke Smith Jul 26, 2021, 12:03 PM Mercedes is braced for Formula 1 title rival Red Bull to fight back at this weekend’s Hungarian Grand Prix after being “bruised” by its defeat at Silverstone. Image Unavailable, Please Login Mercedes ended Red Bull’s five-race win streak at the British Grand Prix after Lewis Hamilton fought back from a 10-second time penalty to score his eighth home victory. Hamilton was penalised after clashing with Red Bull driver Verstappen on the opening lap at Copse, resulting in a 51G crash for the Dutchman. The weekend saw Mercedes enjoy an upswing in form after being comprehensively beaten by Red Bull in both Austria races, with Hamilton topping qualifying on Friday and finishing second in the sprint race. But Mercedes trackside engineering director Andrew Shovlin felt it would be “naive” for the team to go to Hungary expecting to repeat its Silverstone performance, tipping Red Bull to respond. “This is one of our best tracks so it would be naive for us to think we can go there and expect to carry this performance in,” Shovlin said following the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. “Red Bull are going to be good at a high-downforce circuit - frankly they're going to be good at every circuit at the moment - and they're going to be a bit bruised after the experience here. “So I'm sure they're going to come back really strong.” https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/mercedes-braced-for-bruised-red-bull-to-fight-back-in-hungary/6636958/
There is some concern that Max's engine is damaged, that will result into either going to use first engine or take a 3rd engine. Taking a 3rd engine will result in taking several penalties. Hungary is NOT a track you want grid penalties at.
That's complete BS for a team to be penalized for replacing an engine after a massive crash. Exceptions to the rule should be made when a team suffers a serious setback like Silverstone.
Yep... absolutely. I hope it's all fine so we can get on with racing instead of ending up with yet another mickey mouse championship.
The teams have not opted to alter the rules. Cost , cost. But will complain and do nothing. Even 1 extra PU would be a defense to this.
I think it's gonna be a snorefest. Unless it rains. The last time we had a really exciting race here was 2006.

Image Unavailable, Please Login The Australian has called on the category to embrace the rivalry between the two star drivers, and the growing tension between the Mercedes and Red Bull squads off the back of the controversial first-lap clash at Silverstone. Hamilton was handed a 10-second time penalty for his role in the clash - which resulted in a 51g impact for Verstappen - but still fought back to win the British Grand Prix. That prompted some fiery reaction from the Red Bull camp, Hamilton accused of dirty driving by Christian Horner, while Helmut Marko even called for him to be benched for a race. Speaking during a W Series media call on Tuesday, Webber was asked if Formula 1 should intervene to stop the rivalry escalating. His answer was a resounding no, the nine-time grand prix winner hoping we see more intense wheel-to-wheel action as the season wears on. "It's brilliant. It's exactly what we want," he said. "I think it was one of the best first laps we've seen in a long time. "It's been coming, they've had some brilliant wheel-to-wheel battles – Barcelona, Imola, Bahrain. We all knew this was coming. Bring on more of it.
I’m sure RB and Merc will both threaten to deploy handbags at dawn, then once the lights go out they will just race like they always do and all will be forgotten. This should be walk over for RB. Totally their track.
This is getting very personal between Horner and Wolff, more than between Verstappen and Hamilton, it seems.
Wolff is a corporate bully and has enjoyed it his way for seven years. He doesn't handle pressure so well and doesn't like competition despite his rhetoric.
Well, I do understand Red Bull as it feels like you (Elton) made a fault, got a penalty. And in relation to say, football, Max may shoot but LH kept the ball and seems to get it in the other goal….well perhaps not the best comparison but you get my point. And also a huge damage to Max and the car. ciao Oscar
Why is it any surprise that Redbull and Merc will do anything in their power to try and win?! That’s F1 and it’s the way it has always been between rival teams. The mud will fly for months - well, at least until the end of the season! Everyone in these teams will join the fight from the team management to the drivers and everyone in between. They will look for any potential advantage - technical, political, mental. This is total war. It’s not play school. I’m loving it. Best team battle of the hybrid era and the false facade of polite competition has finally been removed to expose the raw underbelly of traditional F1 feuds.
