F8 Timing of F8 Order

Hi all,

Strongly considering ordering my first Ferrari, but am having doubts about whether now would be a sensible time to do so, taking into account the 296 GTB Launch etc.

I have no previous Ferrari history and am being quoted Q2/3 Delivery next year for an F8 Tributo.

Wary of buying at the end of production especially when the replacement car has already been revealed.

Thoughts appreciated.

I think the F8 will weather the test of time fairly well, not sure I can say that about the 296. Buy what you prefer…

 

I tend to agree with the above, but then again, I may be a bit biased as my F8 is currently traversing the Atlantic. My thoughts are:

The F8 is the last of an era. That is to say it is the last mid-engined V8 Ferrari likely to ever be produced. That, to me, is a bit special.

Many of us still have not received our F8s, and new deliveries will likely take place through the end of next year, and perhaps even into 2023.

There is strong speculation, and I tend to agree, that the anticipated number of F8s will not be built thus resulting in a lower than expected overall production run. The primary culprit, of course, being the pandemic. With the 296GTB ready for production, the F8 production will likely be ending on or around the same time as originally expected but the total number of cars produced will be lower than expected. Again, this is speculation, but it seems to make sense.

Finally, I’m not quite sure I would personally want to be a beta tester for the first ever Ferrari hybrid (excluding the limited electrification of the LaF).

Of course the above are just opinions, and we all know what they say about those.

 

I think you should discuss with your dealer a timeline for a 296 GTB. For new launches, VIP and TOP clients typically get dibs on the cars first off the line as a reward for owning the rest of the lineup over the years. In the USA, I am hearing first deliveries in the USA are mid next year so depending on your market you could be waiting until 2023 to get your hands on one as a new customer. The real rub is you are buying a blueprint as no one has driven this car and its a totally new platform - a V6 Hybrid. The F8 is the ultimate evolution of a proven platform and is a great car and the bonus is you can get it quicker and start to live your dream. I would go for it and look to trade to the 296 GTB if the car proves to be as desirable as Ferrari is making it out to be. Yes you may take a hit on the F8 on the trade but that's going to happen on any F series production car. So unless you plan on only owning 1 F car in your life there is no reason not to dive in now.

Cars look completely different. 296gtb most probably has the better sound but V6 hybrid.

I would just choose the one you like most.

 

As a first time ferrari buyer- if you get a 296 allocated (which wont be difficult eventually) you are looking at 2023 minimum for delivery. Minimum. Id get the F8- I think its last of an era and will hold value well- buy it, drive it trade it in for the 296 if that floats your boat.

I'm in the same situation.... first time Ferrari buyer.

My dealer is telling me a F8 Spider has an 18 to 24 month lead time. I'm going to put a deposit down that is refundable until Ferrari accepts the order which, according to my dealer, should occur around 4 months before delivery. I figure that gives me around 14 months to see how depreciation affects that F8 and how prices move in the used market. At least the ball will be moving forward towards getting a Ferrari during that time period and I'll have options when the time to order arrives.

 

Waiting till late 2023/24 for a 296 GTB is an eternity in the car world. A lot can happen with Ferrari introducing other models around that time (variations of the 296). Q2 of 22 is a reasonable wait time for the F8. Occasionally there are delivery mile F8s for sale if you did not want to wait.

 

The last non-hybrid, V8, mid-engine Ferrari is destined to become one of the most sought after, mid-priced F cars of all time. If you can get an F8 allocation, do it. Life is short. The F8 is a masterpiece; the 296 is an unknown unless you believe everything the folks at Ferrari say about it! I had a 458 (a wonderful car), a 488 (a magnificent car), and am awaiting my F8 (a proper, world class supercar car, so great it almost comes from a different bloodline).

 

I ordered my F8 in January and took delivery last week. So 6 months for a Tributo. I am not sure why so many dealers around are quoting 12 months etc. This is my second new Ferrari from my dealer, so maybe that gives me some status, I do not know. But to the question, I would rather have the last of a run. Getting the last series of F8 is full proof and kinda cool. I normally will not get the first year run of a totally new model, especially one that is a new engine + hybrid. I would not be surprised at some initial bugs that they will work out over time. But the F8 is a sure thing.

 

Absolutely, I bought my 458 and 488 from the same dealer and recently ordered an F8, which I will have within 6 months.

 

My dealer here in Tampa quoted me at least 18 months for a F8…could be 24…no way I’m waiting 2 years to get any car. I guess there are plenty of people that will wait.

Other than that…I love the F8. I liked it when I 1st saw it and now love it. Great looking car

 

The F8 will probably be the last non-hybrid V8 mid engine car Ferrari makes.

IMO, that makes it worth a 2 year wait.

Why is the 296 GTB not a replacement for the F8? Because dealers have something to sell if someone comes in and says "I ain't buying no hybrid"

 

296 GTB is not a replacement for the F8.

Ferrari have been very clear about this.

I'm still not convinced though. The first 296 will be delivered to customers in one year time at least, so before that Ferrari still ships F8. But the F8 will probably disappear when the 296 will be actually available.
Ferrari themselves position the F8 as being worse at everything than the 296 (less performance, less fun, similar price - go figure), so it's hardly a different segment for them unless they target masochist customers (that's what Ferrari would think, not me).

 

Thanks your all your thoughts. I should have stated I have zero interest in the 296 GTB. The styling does nothing for me and have no interest in a V6 Hybrid.

Guess my main concern was how 296 deliveries will affect a late production F8 prices.

I am coming from 10 years of 3 x V10 Lamborghini ownership and this is the first Ferrari that has really taken my fancy.

I’ve specced up the F8 in Rosso Fiorano with full black Alcantara interior. Hoping to make a decision this coming week.

My dealer also said he was worried showing the 296 at launch to F8 customers with orders in so I’d say it definitely the replacement.

 

Interestingly enough, my dealer mentioned to me they took 5 F8 deposits the week the 296GTB was released. That’s not to say there wasn’t interest in the new car, there was, but we surmised that the 296GTB was not enough to sway some potential F8 buyers who were on the fence. In essence, the release of the GTB reaffirmed their desire for the F8.

 

EXACTLY!!! The F8 simply checks all the boxes. It’s just awesome.

 

Order your F8 and in the meantime buy something else until the F8 comes in. I love my F8!!

 

Hi, new member here, just put a deposit on my first Ferrari a few days ago (F8 Spider). Going to spec it out on the 19th.

Hope to get it within a year.

Super excited. Not as excited about 296, but that’s just me.

I would get a Pista. Added benefit, you won’t have to wait for 18-24 months.

 

They have , indeed been clear about that. But...I mean ...in a year or so (maybe a bit more? ) the F8 will no longer be made and the 296 will be (along with a spider version ) so...I kinda think it's semantics.

It's not like there's going to be another mid engine 8 cyl replacement for the F8 that is going to be for sale along with the 296. So - I think their words say it's not a replacement but the actions say otherwise.

 

Placed the order today.

Rosso Fiorano with black Alcantara interior, racing seats and a few other bits

Delivery end of February.

 

In which country could you place an order for the F8?
