Agreed, but from what I last heard the Irishman who bought it in 1990 still owns it, so obviously a man with a passion

I always thought they were the dealer for S.A in the early days . You do know there was a second owner to the car before the Smokers bought it back?

Was it not for sale a few years by the UK dealer Paul Baber ? Perhaps it did not sell?

Maybe, but remember W.H. Lowe were not just a Victorian dealer, they were the sole Australian importer, so it would have come through them regardless. W.H. Lowe were the first Ferrari agent outside Europe BTW, quite a coup for our little backwater.

Well, yes. The Ferrari/Lancia/MV Agusta gig was a hobby. The main business was electrical engineering.

Bill Lowe was a car fanatic and in fact entered the 1928, 1929 and 1931 Australian Grand Prix. Amongst other things.

I'm 80% sure that car was in Sydney for a while. If so it had an engine fire which seriously damaged the (fiberglass) firewall and was not well repaired. Also cracked the block at a gearbox bell housing stud - a common problem because the gearbox was heavier than the engine but had no mounts of it's own.

The car was in pieces for many years after the fire. I believe the owner died with the car in bits at the workshop of Joseph Viola. It was subsequently "acquired" by Viola where it remained in pieces until he died, then to Sandro. Its history from there is very murky........

The red carpets are distinctive. The Black interior 365BB's we had in Sydney all had black carpet.
