I don't have any period pics of it only the stuff I've taken.
Rob and Moretts may have some from the Bris-Tassie-Bris drive.
Is that what you'd like lover?

    No.

Was she the one killed around Alexandra Avenue in an E-Type Roadster, I think there were three girls in the car, all unrestrained?

I don't know exactly, my Dad was working at the Alfred that day one of them came into A&E, maybe earlier, he started there in 1971.

Carl, thanks for starting this thread - probably one of the most interesting in a long time.

It's a pity that the usual egoists seem intent on derailing the thread and making it about themslves and their own (neverending) grievances and proclivities.

I hope you push on and we can try to have a conversation about Ferrari history for a (welcome) change.

    Regards

    Hi Bill,

Thanks for your encouragement and I'm glad you find it interesting. None the less, we're not coming from a very high base here.

I've been collecting Ferrari images for about 45 years (And Lamborghini, Maserati and Porsche). The digital ones are all organised, despite me being a latecomer to this format (2001). However everything before then being wet film is organised by throwing prints in tea chest. 90% of these images are identified with the chassis number, date and event on the back. The ones I'm throwing up on Fchat are mainly images donated to me that I cannot identify so any help is appreciated.

The other issue, which hit home for me in June when I attended a funeral of a W.H. Lowe salesperson (More about that in the next Horsepower magazine) is that the people involved in the early history of Ferrari in Australia are nearly all gone. I think it's important that this period is documented because once these people are no longer with us, that's it.

I've begun to digitise these prints and I expect it to take some years, it's a mammoth task, but I'll get there.

Apologies, this seems to be off topic, maybe I'll be banned :D

None the less, the images wait for no one. Here's one of the most photographed 308 GTBs worldwide, and still in its same family ownership today and thankfully, the same colour.

1978 Melbourne Motor Show. This was the first Melbourne Motor Show where W.H. Lowe were not involved. They had ceased representing Ferrari as a distributor and retailer for the 1978 model year and in Melbourne there were now three retailers:

    Lance Dixon
    Henleys Motors
    Clemens Sporting Cars

The Rainbow appeared for the show. Ferrari Spa. were exceedingly unimpressed when the local mechanics got it going and it was driven on the street. I saw it being driven around Alexandra Avenue in 1978, it looked like a space ship.

    Peter,

As an Fchat user with the same standing as you, i am gobsmacked by this reply - well below your standard.
I have always tolerated your clever and subtle trollling because you very often make very interesting posts and your contribution to the forum is often valuable - Your reporting of the Terzini trial was particularly memorable.

If, however, you think that the Australian Section of Fchat is your own personal fiefdom, you are wrong - or, at least, you should be wrong. Your comment re this being the Australian section is inconsidered - this is the Australian section, not the Aircon section.

Carl started a thread that is interesting to a lot of people that has been corrupted by Rob and you, as you (both) continue your personal bickering. I regard both you and he as equally culpable, but you chose to respond to my post so, there you go.

It has been said before, but many Aussie Ferrari people decline to post on the Fchat Aussie section because of the aggressive tone. One very senior Austrlian member told me that he is glad that he is happy that he no longer travels o/s as he is ashamed of the image of Australian Ferrrari owners that is portrayed on Fchat.

So, thanks to both you and Rob for polluting a very interesting thread. It's about time that Pap or Michael faced up to the challenge that you continue to throw up.

Looking forward to (not) seeing your reply, if any, as i am putting you both back on ignore.

    Regards

    WM

    365 GTB/4 #14111.
    W.H. Lowe August 1971.

I think this is the second last RHD Plexiglass Daytona and when I inspected it years ago it featured alloy doors (A characteristic of the early Daytonas).

When this car was new, thieves broke into the W.H. Lowe showroom and attempted to steal it. The cars were stored with minimal fuel and whilst the thieves successfully started it and attempted to drive through the front window, it ran out of fuel. The front was damaged and most of the car was covered in shards of glass, necessitating a re-paint. The lower front chassis rails were damaged as the step between the showroom floor and the footpath was about 1' and the car came to rest with the front wheels off the ground.

The trickiest aspect to the repair was apparently the Plexiglass front. The replacement didn't fit and required hours of fettling according to JA. Was in long term ownership with Stuart M, then a few Melbourne owners, then to Mark Jansen who retrimmed it in black. Another car lost to the UK some years ago.

    I love the clock tag!

    And the colour, oro chiaro.
