I would argue that's because Eric Broadley designed both.

Of course I am, but the Radford design has moved the 62 towards a GT40.

Let's be honest, the Europa was an ill-proportioned car and the 62 not much better. The GT40 is sublime and every designer respects it.

As it is, I suspect the Radford won't work as well in the flesh as it does in photos, because the Exige is just too small to carry off a supercar image.

I See your point however I don't agree with the need for a car to be large to be a supercar, as most are to big only because of the size of the engine. Point case is the GMA T50

Saw a nicely restored Europa at a local car show recently (first one I’ve seen for years); nice young guy who inherited it out of his uncle’s shed and put a lot of time and money into it; even better, his young doughter was his offsider during the restoration! I thought they were the bees knees when I was a kid (my size!)

As a teenager in the early 70's I worked in a petrol satiation on the Newell highway ( inland highway from QLD to Victoria) and a guy pulled in in a S2 Europa and being a Renault fan this was the very first "exotic" car I had ever seen and was blown away by how different it was. I've always wanted one but my wife has vetoed the idea, so at the time I bought an ELAN. still like one

I agree, modern cars are too big, but I think it's more to do with fitting in all the luxury features that the price tag dictates. Look at the size of the current 911 compared to the original. Ditto F8 to a 308GTB. Modern sports cars are over powered, overweight and overstated, all in the name of impressing people like Shmee150.

btw a GT40 is not a big car, being of similar footprint to a 308GTB, but both are just the right size to have more presence than an Elise/Exige.

Isn’t the Radford 62 based on an Evora?

I took your comment on the GT40 as to the styling, not size, apologies it it came across the wrong way

Graeme, I forgot to add that I have a lot of respect for many Lotus designs, Elite, Elan, Esprit, etc. I think the Evora was a bold step away from predictable mid engine design and it influenced later Ferraris. Just look at the glasshouse of a La Ferrari or SF90.

I agree the EVORA was a Bold design and the early cars I didn't like the glass house was to big mainly as they chased a 2+2 and a CEO at the time who was 6'3" and it is heavy by LOTS standards and the EMIRA is a bit bigger again.
Having said that the Black pack of my 400 really changed the look, did I mention I'm not a fan of Black wheels

Presence equals extra weight, and that’s not what the Elise/Exige platform was about (i.e., impressing the “look at me” crowd). An Elise/Exige is basically a road-registered go-kart/sports car, IMO. Let’s be honest, the Elise in particular represents the end of the line for an analogue sports car well under 1000kg that comes with a roof and doors.

I think the Elise/Exige are terrific, lots of fun per dollar. I did quite a few miles in a series 1 Elise back in the day. The gearshift was almost as bad as an early 911 :)

But dropping a GT40-esque body onto one doesn't make it a $500K car, which as I understand is the asking price for the Radford.

Yes, I see your point. I remember you telling me about your experience with an S1, and you remarked how much more solid and rattle-free my Elise S2 was in comparison. Then you said for the same money as the Elise I should have bought a 308 instead - and financially speaking … you were right! :p

Well I feel quite chuffed with myself, Troy's Mazda had lights all over the place and his auto box only had 1st and third and vibrated all over the place ........ entre the golden touch (I get it once every 10 years or so ) , I disconnected the battery , cleaned his car (lazy little shjt!!) he cleaned all my stainless fans in the house ....... two hours later I put the terminal back on the battery and all of the lights went out, took it for a drive and the auto is shifting nice and smooth through all of the gears and his car is so clean I didn't think it was his :p

He had a 1 in 10 chance of the TCM reset fixing the issues :)
