What do you hate about the process of selling your car?

Opening up this discussion to see what everyones pet peeves are and what types of bad experiences you have had. Let's hear it!

I recently had such a nightmare of an experience selling my 488 to a dealership. For starters they low balled me $40k, negotiated my way up to a "somewhat" reasonable price, and then had a nightmare of a time getting paid.

Unrealistic ultra-low ballers like you describe are very annoying.

People knowing what you are offering and then turning up to pull every minor detail apart and expect you to drop some 20% in price. Simple, I am not selling it to you pal, pissoff.

OK, I'll pay your ask, but I want both keys, the all the manuals, the car cover, the battery tender, and the tool kit.

Oh, and the Schedoni luggage! :D

The most annoying thing about selling a car is making sure they have the money and getting it to you in a proper manner for both parties.

From what I've read here over the years, apparently some sellers like to keep a souvenir from their old Ferrari.

This picture made me laugh. Several years ago I sold my 79 t-top 305 camaro. Nothing fancy, just a clean original car. I lined up potential buyers on a Saturday and settled in for a day of time wasters. One guy showed up in Zubas and proceeded to do the pick it apart bit. “It’s a base low horse 305, plaid red cloth interior, white is the least desirable color, etc. Eventually he starts showing me pictures of other camaros for sale in Trading Times that looked only slightly better than the picture you posted. I politely said no thanks. Two more time wasters and a guy came, drove it, and didn’t haggle. Just handed me the cash. Zuba guy called on Sunday and gave me his “best and final” offer.

I remember years ago selling my motorcycle; I posted it on the bulletin board at work and a guy in my company (not a total stranger) called my and offered me 1/2 my asking price without even bothering to look at the bike. He said that a bike that old would need tires, battery, etc etc and that my bike was worth 1/2 what I was offering, no discussion.
    Take a hike

Haha yes this is a great one. I had someone recently inspect my car as if it were going into Pebble Beach. They amounted $10k in paint work repairs and wanted me to lower the price by $15k for the time it would take to do it. Mind you the car has a full body clear bra.

When a potential buyer says “I have cash”, I immediately end the discussion in a way that leaves them miffed.

Selling is probably the worst part of the ownership...

I have no time to deal directly with potential buyers so I sell my cars in consignment using few so called "trusted dealers", and still had to deal with lowballers and the ridiculous pressure that dealers are making to close the deal and get the fees. As a matter of fact i feel I always leave some cash on the table, even though I always sold quickly...

It's typically something that a low-baller says, and besides how else would one pay?

I guess someone who says that may be a low-baller, I don't know. However, the cash guy doesn't have to apply for financing which others may not be able to get.

    Tirekickin low ballers…

Worst part of sale is when I regret selling and later buy the same car back … happened with my Speciale
