Being former USAF I never really paid much attention to the Chinook but I'm watching a show on Smithsonian about it and wow... impressive aircraft. Did you know that it's the fastest helicopter in the US Military? I had no idea. It can also carry 25k pounds.

Does anyone have one? I have a project where I could use one. :)

Eh... not that crazy. I want to put a few shipping container homes on my lake property (I'm soooo fancy). Given where it is it would be nice to just helicopter them into place. That can't cost that much right? :)

I don't know about your budget, but out here on the left coast, a SkyCrane is $25,000/hr., which is just ever so slightly above my budget, by maybe $24,000/hr.......
Oh, and that commences at lift-off, about 400 miles south of me......

Have you ever seen one land on the water? They are designed to do that, and I've seen them do it a number of times.

You really should listen to The Afterburn Podcast episodes 16 & 17 which has the pilot of a California ANG chinook pilot who rescued over 100 people from the California wildfires last year. The C-17 out of Kabul with ~640 people on board was impressive but cramming over 100 people into a Chinook is really next level. The crew members received Distinguished Flying Cross for their efforts.

Chinook factory got a couple years back. It's got alot of history, originally built as a Baldwin locomotive factory in the 30s, its been pumping out Chinooks for 60 years now, and will hopefully keep going for a long time.

I worked across the road from that plant for 2 years, on the V-22 Osprey program, in an office building erected for engineering, and never paid the plant a visit!
