I’ve owned a 458 and an f12, both have had disgustingly short ranges for the key fobs. Italian engineering at its finest. Anyone run into this issue and have a solution? Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
From a different but positive perspective, the shorter key fob range distance may be a blessing especially if there are car thieves around with a digital scanner that can decode, copy and mimic your car's distinct key transmitter code to steal it sometime later. A tried and true process to somehow lengthen its transmission distance is to place the key fob directly under your chin which will make your entire corpus as an antenna transmitter. It also used to bother me but after I found out about car thieves sophisticated Modus Operandi, I only trigger my key fob when I'm close to my car.
I have to be about 2 feet away for the F430 fob to work. But I think my alarm battery might be on the way out...
You'd think that replay attacks were well understood by the automotive industry I know the LandCruiser guys replaced the key antennas in their cars for extending the range, I wonder if something similar is possible https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/mod-extending-range-of-keyless-entry.1113795/
Usually it's due to Ferrari's wonderful placement of the antenna. This was a common issue on the 360; if you search the 360 forum, you should be able to find the fix. I did it on my 360 and range went from about 2 feet to 50-75 feet. You basically just have to move the antenna so it's not blocked by a bunch of metal. Ray
Antenna/Sensor needs to be replaced on F12s. Warranty case normally. Just done on my F12 tdf. Marcel Massini
I don't know what you're talking about. I can get at least six feet on a good day. Seriously, do the under chin thing if it bothers you. It works on all key fobs.
Ha, I feel blessed with 6 feet. I was standing by the driver side door the other day when I posted this thread and it wouldn’t unlock. The world was against me for a couple seconds there haha Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
I can get probably 50m with each key fob. Not been an issue for me beside the time the batteries ran out.
I can get it from inside my main house to the guest house garage approximately 100 feet away. Yes, I feel lucky.
It’s a funny thing. But my son and I discovered that if you hold the Ferrari key against your cheek it works for much farther away. It probably has something to do with the antenna and power on the key it’s self as opposed to where the intent it is on the car. We discovered this while looking for our car at Disney. He said dad watch this and in fact it did work from much farther away. This Maneuver subsequently worked with the 488, F12, Lusso, and F8 and 812 currently. So it is not generational. I’m not suggesting that this should be how we normally use the key of course, just giving a data point. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
I tried that and it doesn’t seem to help any. I was thinking about replacing the battery in the key maybe to see if that’d help. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
As said before (post #8) one has to replace sensor/antenna in the roof, not just batteries in the key. I did all of that ten days ago on my F12 tdf. Under warranty. Marcel Massini
Hey man I’m the one that started the thread. If I could have my unlock and lock button work more than 10 ft I’d be blessed. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
My bet is that it's the alarm module antenna location. As mentioned above, it was a common issue on the 360. Here's a thread about it; on page #3, I show how I resolved the issue on my car: https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/distance-on-360-alarm.111841/ Might be a similar issue on your car? Ray
Sir, is that the flat 'shark fin' on the roof top itself or, as some say, imbedded in the rear glass? If on the roof, did they indicate to you that the ceiling liner had to be removed?
