It's rich seeing him complaining about Hamilton not paying taxes when he's a resident of the Isle of Man. Pompous and full of himself, Jeremy's main contribution to life is being the annoying guy of a triplet of car reviewers.

Wow- I try to be fair with Hamilton but u should to with Jeremy. U may not like him but he is a living legend and one of the best ever out there.
The same way we ask the anti Hamilton not to be narrow minded and be tolerant let’s be the same way on other topics too. U may not like Jeremy but he has a legion of fans that adore him.

Honestly, I don't know much about him except the schtick I saw from a few Top Gear clips. Not a person I would seek for any real commentary.

Why not, it's the way of the world, isn't it? Everyone judges based on limited input. That's why we have entire threads and multitudes of posts based on disliking a driver none of us even knows.

Why should the rule apply one way but not the other?

Residents pay income tax and national insurance on Isle Of Man.

Clarkson is occasionally funny but his journalism is getting sloppy - he failed to mention how Hamilton contracted Covid while breaking Social Distancing rules while partying in Dubai.

His inference is that Hamilton needs to pay taxes in the UK (which he actually does). After the garbage that got him fired, he should just remain silent and be thought a fool rather than to continue speaking and erase all doubt.

So why are you mentioning the IOM where residents pay tax ?

Can we assume you don't like Clarkson ? :D

I keep saying it, the VAT on his restaurant bills doesn't count as paying his income taxes. Hamilton claims to be paying tax in 20 countries (which technically is not a lie, so long we consider he means VAT). If he means income tax, he's either a liar or has the dumbest ****ing accountant on the planet that's fleecing Hamilton and claims it as tax.

You have a good point. But he said specifically that he doesn't follow or know much about Clarkson. On the other hand, if you have watched and read 100 interviews of Hamilton, you at least have a base to consider giving an opinion.

Strange, Michael taking his last pole in Monaco while changing the break bias in the swimming pool section with one hand on the wheel, didn’t seem a shadow of himself??.

I think what we saw on Michael's comeback was only flashes of his previous brilliance. I think what was never commended enough is that he never gave up, and genuinely stayed and helped the team in every which way possible. Listening to guys that previously hated him from being former rivals (ex Williams, BAR, Mclaren staff) that ended up working with him only ever speak of him in admiration. Michael had it all and had nothing left to prove, yet he didn't pack his bags the moment he realized he started to miss certain bits that set him apart and not being in a fast car. The amount of negative comments he got was incredible. The current Mercedes wouldn't be where they are if it wasn't for Michael. Michael was instrumental in going for the long wheel base for example. He insisted on it.

This dude will forever be a drama queen. He claims he cried or something when Senna died. Problem was, he was 9 when Senna died. I hardly knew anyone at that age can understand death.

Then he claims to be a Senna fan. Yet he has no clue when Senna won his WDCs. And not to mention the constant whining, and how Alonso was 'dangerous' at the last race. What a dumb@$$

Income tax is obviously not VAT.

Prof. athletes that earn prize money in foreign country's pay (income) taxes on price money won in that particular country. Tennis players for instance do. And that's why many live in Monaco (or Switzerland), so they don't have to pay income taxes on the same awarded prize money twice.

If that's also the case in F1 Hamilton and other F1 drivers indeed pay income taxes in foreign country's.

But I'm not sure that F1 awards individual GP winners (and podium finishes etc.) with prize money. It's the teams themselves that pay salaries and bonusses to the individual drivers in case they indeed win points and have podium finishes and win races.

That's exactly my point. I'm aware how tax & Monaco works. There is no prize money for individual races in F1. They're salaried and if their contract stipulates it, they get a bonus per point earned over the season. Hence my point, unless Lewis counts the VAT he pays in restaurants as paying tax in 20 different countries, he's either lying, an idiot or has the worst accountant on the planet (possibility of all 3 not excluded).

Realistically, the only FAIR way to compare tax rates is to take all the money paid in taxes and divide by income (from all sources).
We here in Texas have 8%-ish sales taxes, $0.20/gallon gasoline tax, outrageous property taxes, but no income taxes (state).
Other states have income tax, lower sales taxes, higher gasoline taxes, more moderate property taxes.
European states have VAT, income, property,.... taxes.
Add them all up before comparing one place to another.

But once again, the ONLY fair way to measure tax rate is by including all monies spent paying taxes of every kind.
