Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login 85 Euro QV So my windows haven’t worked right on my car since I purchased it. Driver side window will travel all the way down and then only a third of the way up. Passenger side will travel down about 6 inches and then not come up without me pulling on the window. Have the interior out of the car currently getting redone so I decided today to maybe look into the window switches first and then move on from there. Read Martin’s thread about regreasing his switches that made quite a difference so thought I would start there. I believe my switch is our original? Both have “Torrix” stamped on the side. Looks like the top cover just snaps on there but it really doesn’t want to budge. Thought I’d ask if anyone has removed these covers before I get too crazy and accidentally destroy them. Any advice appreciated!

Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Okay, So I figured out how to snap the trim covers off. Just a flat bladed eyeglass screwdriver along the side and it pops right off. All the internals are held tightly in place, I’m guessing due to the five spade terminals coming out of it that the wiring harness plugs into. All the contact points seem to snap quickly and solidly into place when pushed. Really no room to polish any of the contact points. Maybe just put some dielectric contact grease on the contact points and call it good? The five spade terminals coming out the back look quite corroded. Does anyone have a method of cleaning these back up? Thanks!

Ideally you want to cut open that contact housing to get easy access to the contact points for polishing. Take care that the springs don't launch some parts into orbit. A good trick is to open up the housing inside a plastic bag. Here is a thread for inspiration:

    https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/512-bbi-window-switch-repair.645678/

Not the same switch but the housing seems to be assembled in the same way using melted securing pins.

    Good luck

    Best, Peter

Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login . So per Peters thread he posted above I cut the two tabs on the side and was able to disassemble the passenger side rocker switch. Very glad I did because the contacts are very tarnished for sure. Switch seems pretty simple (famous last words) hopefully I can get this cleaned up and reassembled without too much issue.

Are you doing this 'On Principle' as those switches can be 'had' for just a few Bucks each literally, w/o the Horsey Tax.

Check the Parts X-Ref 'Sticky' above.

I do believe these switches are original to my car and judging from the internals they are not cheaply built like you would see with many aftermarket switches that use plastic pieces throughout. Also sounds like the old-style switches are NLA. So… given the fact that the windows are not running relays and switch is taking 12 volt, felt it best to use a quality switch? Has nothing to do with trying to keep the switches original, just thought I would have better luck with longevity if I didn’t use cheap Chinese aftermarket switches. Couple of the members have done this with their 512 BBi and been very happy with the outcome.

Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Started with the passenger window switch and left the drivers so I had something to reference. Pieces cleaned up very quickly with a bit of tarnish remover by letting them soak two minutes. Rinsed them then air dry. Used some very fine 1000 grit wet/dry sandpaper and polished the contacts just a bit then a small dab of conductive grease. Was a little worried that I couldn’t get it back together but it was fairly easy. Went out into the other garage and plugged it back into the Ferrari wiring harness and turned the ignition key. Window immediately traveled about 10 inches before starting to slow down so next step after doing the drivers switch will be pulling the window motors and get them re-lubricated and cables/tracks adjusted. Made for an easy enjoyable afternoon project. Thanks again Peter for all your help!

    Hi
I think you may want to remove the door cards, clean out the door internals and for sure re-string and clean the door lifter system. Strip and clean the door lifter motor, pulleys and string with new wire cable. It is well within the capability of a practical skilled person and there are many sites for help. It is finicky but worth the effort. I do not think that the operating switch is the problem but by all means repair / clean as you plan. For me the issue is the window lifter system.
    Thanks

The switches are equally important to service and should not be forgotten. high drag in the window systems results in high current draw over the switches and burnt points. These things goes hand in hand. You can save cost and work related to installation of relays and cables if you just maintain the entire system. It’s as simple as that…

    best, Peter
