my Lusso just turned 3 years old and is out of warranty. have driven it 6500kms since new and the ptu thread makes me think twice of keeping it.

im thinking of trading it for a new SF90 or 812GTS. which would be a better buy? with travel restrictions i am unable to test drive and see either car at the moment. would i be missing the v12 sound with an SF90? im in a tropical country, so the GTS roof would rarely be down. i do mostly city driving, but i do drive aggressively.

the gts may feel like my lusso inside/out as its design language belongs to the same era, the SF90 looks futuristic but im concerned if im gonna miss the V12 howl.

If mostly city driving, keep the Lusso and purchase the extended warranty if you are concerned of future repair costs. You will miss the V12 sound if you trade for a SF90

In the US many auto insurance companies offer mechanical breakdown insurance, significantly cheaper than extended warranties and same coverages. Not sure if that's offered in the Philippines, but worth checking if you'd prefer to keep the Lusso.

One cannot worry about a low probability PTU failure without also realizing the potential unknowns/repair costs on an untested hybrid/first generation model such as the SF90. The 812 would be an easy decision for me if the Lusso goes - or get the GTS and keep the Lusso!

If you are an aggressive city driver doing stoplight to stoplight drag races the SF90 would be the winner as it takes off immediately when you drop the hammer
But the GTS- sound and sky aplenty- can’t beat that combination

If you don't use the rear seats, the 812 GTS is a great choice. Still very comfy and user-friendly, but much more engaging.

As for the SF90? I can't tell you whether or not that trade will work for you. Those cars are so different it's hard to do a good recommendation.
If you are considering using it for trips like you would a Lusso, 812, F8 etc. forget it. There's no luggage room what so ever, so consider that.
As for driving, you may miss the V12, but it is a more engaging car than the 812 and Lusso.

GTS. Biased as I own one. But have to believe in 10 years the GTS will hold value much better than the sf90 and I personally love the 12. Sf90 is a brilliant car but the GTS is true to what Ferrari is and has been from the 1st day. A NA V12 that sings

I have or have had all the cars mentioned. They are all fantastic and you can make a case for any of them depending on what you want. I wouldn’t try and second-guess most of the conclusions or the general consensus of owners who have written on fchat already, there is nothing ‘extra’ to be discovered really. The Lusso is a great car but really quite different to the other two. If you want a Ferrari as a car, it is perhaps the best because it is easily the most practical and usable. Its competitors are not the GTS or SF90 but a Bentley or something similar, and for a petrolhead, there is really no competition - it’s streets ahead.

When you get to the other two though, they are streets ahead of the Lusso as driving tools, albeit very different to each other. The GTS is a great one-car garage. Perhaps only bettered in the Ferrari stable by the Pista Spider for ‘one car’ duties. The reason for that is that mid-engined is more exotic and Pista is better on the track than the GTS, plus it can do the roadtrip and ‘Grand Tour’ thing well too. GTS beats it for sound and maybe that subjective feeling of well-being behind the wheel heading across the continent but its abilities are not as broad. But the GTS is a real gem in the range and we absolutely love using ours. Don’t really miss the Lusso at all.

The SF90 has been a real surprise. Far better than I expected. A good question ahead of ownership would have been “how can they get a mid-engined V8 turbo to feel more innately valuable than the wonderful V12 812 range?” Well, they did. The look of the car is incredible, the feel inside, the interior detailing and ambience is screaming “I have something the others just don’t”. To drive it is inspirational. It is more hardcore than the GTS by a stretch, maybe even than the Pista. Its performance is next level and you have to really get to grips with it, though it is faithful, powerful, connected and intuitive to drive quickly. For the moment it is something very special in the automotive world and I can’t think of a competitor. 765 is not one, that’s a familiar theme to Porsche, Ferrari and Lamborghini - a great car but one clearly based on a lesser vehicle. A Pagani? Too expensive and low tech to be a competitor. An Aventador? Similar price but everything else it’s nowhere, except maybe drama. Certainly not power, performance and driving ability. The tech, the drive, the feel at the price point they chose makes the SF90 really very unique….and it is very very good. It is maybe not as usable though. I sometimes feel a little conspicuous just driving the car for local day-to-day stuff. I know what it cost although I guess most people just see a Ferrari, perhaps even mistake it for a 458 or 488.

So in the end, your answer is to decide what you value most because they offer something different but of, let’s say, equal standard. If mid-engined, aggressive, responsive driving is more important, the SF90 is your car. If all round, GT driving, still with the ability to excite with a great drive and scintillating sound is for you then GTS. Looks, nobody can tell you that but don’t believe the nay-sayers with the SF90, it’s a beautiful, stunning and very imposing design with more presence than the GTS. Our SF90 is an AF car, perhaps a non-AF SF90 spider could be the best of all worlds? Or add AF to it and it probably knocks the Pista Spider off it’s one-car garage perch.

    Kamusta kaibigan,

When I decided to get a Ferrari, I didn't consider any V8, either NA (458) or twin-turbocharged. So I got a final year 2011 599 HGTE because I desired a semi-analog feel which was lost when the F12 arrived in 2012. Haven't regretted it at all - that scream near redline and the jolt in your back when its F1 Superfast shifts near redline. Sort of reminded me of the V10's and V8's that Schumacher and Raikonnen drove in which I assisted Ferrari Maranello chassis, engine and fuel engineers in consultation and components design and supply from 1997-2016 (when I retired). Loved that unabated, thumping, screaming sound you can literally feel on your chest on F1 tracks.

Don't you also own a beautiful red F12? You'll miss the V12 sound on an SF90. You'd need an armed guard to watch it when parked on the kalye to keep the little urchins from touching it. Know what I mean?

Now I'm quite familiar with driving on Manila's, QC's and Makati's streets (having been back several times to visit family) and the Lusso would be preferable to drive on those funky streets and I won't be as worried with the undisciplined, reckless jitneys, cabs and swerving motorbikes, plus the bus drivers who think they're racing on a track (mag sira ang ulo!).

But you know, life is very short and you've got only one to live, so go for a GTS. As a product engineering designer myself, I believe it's the most beautiful design that Manzoni & team has created so far and will become a valued classic since it's also a spyder (check out values of all previous V12 spyders, all higher than original retail). Forget about the extra humid, and suffocating heat; live in style, pare. o_O

Having owned a few Ferrari V8s, driven a V12 Lusso and now own an 812 there is no way I'd swap it for any V8 or V6 for that matter. I'd get either as a companion for my 812 but 100% not as a replacement.

salamat sa advice! actually i really like the Roma and the new 296 in terms of style, but i cant get to terms losing money and trade for a lesser car hence the SF90 and 812 GTS options. Sadly the local dealer has no Roma, SF90, or GTS arriving for retail due to the covid situation. I may have the chance to see them though towards end 2021 when they arrive. I love my Lusso very as it seats 4 people with a V12, AWD, and being the last of its kind. Actually its rare here as only 5 exists as far as i know (3-V12s, 2-V8s). Im leaning now on keeping the Lusso, work harder, and buy a 2nd ferrari at the right time :)
