This was a fantastic video and very true. When he brought up the need to design to a small thumbnail on a smartphone it rang true with me. Last year i was hired to design a bunch of jigsaw puzzles. They are sold on Amazon mostly, and the key was creating a design whose thumbnail popped on someones smart phone.

Once I got that, it was easy. But its still very very sad...

 

What do you think of the new Z? Finally, a new Japanese design that doesn't look like an angry insect on LSD.

Another thing I like, being 6'2" and long-waisted, the interior looks bigger than the Miata.

I would rather a body-colored roof than black, but it looks excellent. Really well executed and one of the best-looking cars coming out of Japan in recent years. A bit like a more mature GT86, and I really like that too.

I can't wait to see the new Nissan Z out on the road.

OK, we knew this was coming, BUT, they stuck a retro front end (without the subtlety of the original w/ bumpers) onto last decades' chunky mongrel offspring.
I hope the dynamics are spectacular, because if you painted it in a medium shade of brown, it would look like a piece of.....

The key for me will be if I fit. None of the current Japanese sport cars work for me.

 

I am a big Z fan! My first car was a 240 and I later owned a 300ZX Turbo.
Overall I like the new Z. I like the side view proportions and the hood and the rear looks great! I find it a bit odd that you can pick out where they pilfered from each era, but it works out. The most perplexing thing to me is that the Nissan literature says "iconic headlights". Not only do the headlights not evoke the 240z's iconic headlights (to me), they don't seem to have a design direction, (The feeling that they are close to symmetrical about themselves, makes the shape seem static) and the scallop surface in front of the lamps creates an odd relationship to the surrounding surfaces. Overall I think the front end is weak compared to the rest of the car.
The 240z had huge amounts of leg room (I am 6'6") and I have never had a car I fit in so well. If this new version came close to that, I would be pretty interested in owning one.
