It's not that simple. They have made a bunch of changes to the LT2 already compared to the LT1, LT4 and LT5. The internals are the same, but several external changes have been made to accommodate the DCT and engine placement. So don't expect to see the Z06 mill as a crate deal any time soon. The only way I could ever see the Z06 engine becoming a crate, was if GM decided to make a flat plane version of the Camaro.
Here's something I've been thinking about, which kind of puts things into perspective a bit. Everyone is asking why Ferrari is not doing this and praising GM for doing it. But nobody seems to consider the fact that the ZR1 will use the same engine but in a twin turbo configuration. So when it comes to what will be the fastest and "best" version of the C8, GM is doing the exact same thing Ferrari and McLaren have been doing for years now. GM is not even using a supercharger to retain the sound, but go directly to the turbos like everybody else. So like the rest GM has also realized that you cannot be a top contender without forced induction or hybrid these days.
I'm not sure your post takes into account what is and will presumably be available at GM/Corvette. Porsche has the GT3/GT3RS in NA form. They ALSO have the more powerful "Turbo/Turbo S" and GT2RS versions. In Ferrari world it is a V8 turbo or V-6 turbo. NO NA car save for the V12. So yes, I too am in the camp of praising Corvette/GM.
It really amazes me that the Americans can't understand the compromises that a small scale manufacturer has to make when designing a new, small-scale production supercar. It seems that they only care about vroom-vroom sounds. CO2 emissions (important in Europe), cubic capacity (important in China and some European countries) and top power doesn't register in their brains, apparently. Yes, Lamborghini still has that marvellous N/A V10, but that's probably their last straw, and they have fallen behind in the power department due to that.
I am and you are comparing apples to oranges. Compare the ZR1 if you want to directly compare the C8 to a Ferrari or McLaren. Yes Porsche has a GT3 but they are not trying to target that against a Ferrari or a McLaren. They use the GT2RS for that - because that's the car they have which fit the same demographic. It is just silly to think the C8 Z51 is on a similar level as even a 488, much less an F8, Pista or other contemporary car. Yes it is cheap in the US, and yes it has a neat party trick with its 0-60 time, but that's where it ends. Once up to speed, tests have shown that it does not even hang with a 458, a car 10 years its senior. Outside of the US there is zero to be impressed about, because we can get better cars for the same money, especially when we are talking the C8 Z06. Merc GT cars, 911's, BMW M cars and used Ferraris and McLarens. Why buy a Z06 if the same money can get you into a used 488 or 720S? Why buy a C8 Z51 when the same money can get you into a Porsche GT car or TTS? When journalists talk about a 60 grand car with better performance than a 488, I'm sorry, but that's just asinine. That is clearly the star spangled shades clouding his or her vision. From both a performance and finish standpoint, it is a stupid comparison. I've driven the C8 and it cannot hang with a 488, not even close. The build and materials are exactly as you would expect them to be in a car that is supposed to be a somewhat budget friendly sportscar, but with up-to-date tech. It does not feel or look more luxurious than the 60k usd it has as its base price. Am I glad the Corvette has become a mid engined sports car? Yes in many ways, but I do think it has lost some of its soul. It was always something attainable for the real enthusiast, something you could wrench on. The ability to customize and modify was a major part of what made the Corvette special - it was the Harley Davidson of cars in this regard. I'm not a Corvette hater and have had my hands in my share of LS builds. My gripe with the C8 has to do with journalists etc. trying to pass it off as something it is not just because, they made it mid engined. Personally I'd rather have a C6 Z06 with a 510 Todd Goodwin LS than a C8. But that's just me. As for the C8 ZR1? I suspect that here in Europe it will be as expensive as a 296 or what ever car McLaren launches in 2023, so why bother with that. Sent from my SM-G930F using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Quite a silly post. A country of 350 million people lumped together and not one of them could possibly be as enlightened as you.
C8 is the fastest selling car in the US and the first delivery to Europe is not even scheduled till end of the of the year. I have owned every iteration of the Zo6 since the C5 often alongside the Fcar of the same Era. I found that the C5Z out performed the 360, C6 the 430 and the C7 the 458 and likely the488. No one truly knows at this point for certain what the Zo6 or ZR1 will bring to the table, but history tells most observers it will be very competitive on track. Gm was producing 638 hp vette in C6 and 755 hp vetted in the C7. The C7 zr1 owns many track records and may at times be shunned by an occasional snob, but when it comes to performance it usually punches way above its weight class.
That can’t possibly be right. You might get a nice Cayman, but a non-S 911 starts at $101k which is already likely $10-20k more than a base Z06.You can get two Z06’s for a Porsche TTS. The Mercury AMG GT starts at $117k. Used Ferrari’s and McLaren’s? Maybe 15 year old version which still costs more than a Z06 and if it doesn’t likely needs immediate maintenance needs that quickly add up to more than the Vette. The only alternative is an M car, and I wouldn’t be cross shopping a Z06 to an M coupe (only an M4 or lower is compatibly priced).
Nope. It’s not even the fastest selling U.S. made car. Tesla is selling way more cars. More Model 3’s and more Model Y’s by a lot. Fred 2021 F8 Spider owner
It has been changing hands between the G wagon and the C8, with the C8 taking the lead in July. Do you have a source for Tesla? I don’t know how they would sell in great numbers if my order for the MS Plaid is any indication. https://www.iseecars.com/fastest-selling-cars-study based on the above article, Tesla is not even in the rankings. I think u may have confused new car sales to used ones.
a Well it is true. If you spec a C8 Z51 to say 85 grand in the US, it will end up about 160k Euro or 140 Pound. Now do that math with a Z06 that will cost about 130-140 usd out the door and you can see where we are at. Base price of a C8 in Europe is the equivalent of 110k usd and then you add all the options which also gets taxed. It's close to twice the price and more in some countries.
This Vette will be more comfortable than any supercar Ferrari. Will have a nicer interior. Awesome sound. It gonna be epic.
Don’t be silly. Tesla sells more Model 3’s in a quarter than the C8 will do in a year. Tesla’s sales are doubling year over year also. It’s not close now and the gap will get much much bigger. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Fred 2021 F8 Spider owner
