Just unboxed the Kline, very nice. The X-Pipe is actually 2 1/2" O.D., the silencer pipe is 2". Didn't know that. Anyone know if there is a way to keep the S.S. looking nice like this? LOL Read someone say something about rubbing with alcohol to get even coloration, dunno if that works
The only part really visible from the hood is the muffler / silencer. Mine (my F430 is now sold) kept nice and shiny for over a year without ever doing anything to it except wipe it down with moist rag using microfiber cloth whenever I clean my car. Or you can use this to give it a light shine: https://www.griotsgarage.com/product/metal+polish+2.5+ounces.do?from=Search&cx=0 Hope that helps. Dan
If looking new is your concern, my advice to you is to sell it and order an Inconel version. SS doesn’t patina well and if you use it long enough, just starts looking old and beat. Inconel, on the other hand, looks better than new as you use it . But yea... I’ve already mentioned this like 10x here on Fchat, but it doesn’t seem people are paying attention Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Here’s a brand new $9k Powercraft muffler for the Scud only offered in SS. https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/f283295837 Now here’s a used one... https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/g483517026 Image Unavailable, Please Login
Check out Ospho metal cleaner. Haven't tried myself but looks like it does a good job Sent from my SM-A515W using Tapatalk
There is a really good SS cleaning for BBQs too. "Undid" metal discoloration damage. http://www.grill-repair.com/parts-clean.html 2nd line down in the parts chart
If you want to keep it new looking, you have to keep up with it. My OEM muffler is polished and I keep it up with Mother's Metal polish and bronze wool. Same goes for my motorcycles with stainless pipes. It's a lot of work but I think it's worth it every 2 weeks. Takes about 20 minutes. Let it go longer than that and it can be really hard to "bring it back".
Yoshimura STAIN-Magic. Made for the purpose and does a great job. Image Unavailable, Please Login Sent from my SM-G955F using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Image Unavailable, Please Login Mothers polish and bronze wool keeps the OEM muffler looking nice. Also very interested in how you like your new Kline exhaust. I'm looking to do a system on my car. A follow up post would be great.
I haven't had good experience with "never dull" on exhausts. I have had good luck with it on some precious metals and stuff. Was thinking, has anyone used something like "Cape Cod" cloths on the exhaust? I have used them on my SS watches when I get fine scratches, I haven't had any "heat discoloring" for obvious reasons on my watches, but I know the cloths have some sort of "grit" in them to help clean besides the chemical reaction so maybe it can help with some very discolored exhausts.
Certainly there are many posts on here for Kline exhausts and I have posted on a couple of them, if you look at my profile and posts, you can see them, nevertheless, I'm always glad to share I really really like the Kline exhaust. What I liked about the oem exhaust was that it had a really nice growl to it which really got you going but I did find in the end (imho) that it was a bit one note and a bit stop/start-ish The Kline in closed mode is unbelievably quiet, not like a luxury car, but quite muffled. It is very pleasant for cruising and conversing and when you get on it, you feel the speed and the rush, the sound is just smoothness a nice, even keeled tone that just sounds like, well, smooth acceleration This is a personality trait which simply did not exist with the oem exhaust and I for one like having this option when I feel like driving in this mode. It really extends the range of the car's awesomeness and really accentuates the luxury aspect of the car. It's very enjoyable if you're just on a trip with the significant other, etc and you're just logging miles Ok, now the Mr. Hyde to the Dr. Jekyll I've got a 2008 spider outfitted with aftermarket headers, test pipes and a converted manual. Drop the top, open the valves. The sound is I would say better to MUCH better than OEM. This is all of course personal preference. It's not quite as loud as OEM, but the volume builds and drops much smoother and the tone is not as barky, more of a howling wail. A loud, higher pitched wail that is unfreakingbelievably incredible sounding and addictive. If you're in Central NJ, I'd be happy to demonstrate. The OEM is wild and fun, it's crazy awesome for sure. One of the things that sold me on the car. But now I feel like I have a system with options that has optimized something that was great and made it smoother, multi-level exhaust with options for tailoring the driving experience. Couple it with the precision of the 6 speed and I feel like the while car is just so much more next level in terms of range, control, precision, flexibility. And it's much lighter and arguably sleeker so you shed a few pounds and it looks pretty slick. I think the tailpipe treatment is much cooler. DM me if you want pics, to chat, or any other info, etc
Must be a New Jersey thing, but I also love my Kline exhaust also for the exact same reasons as Colorfull. It's quieter than stock with valves closed, but sounds great when the valves open. I have stock MKII manifolds and Cats on my 09 coupe. I'm curious how it sounds with the test pipe, hopefully I bump in to Colorfull at some local get cars and coffee or FCA event. One more thing... In retrospect, I should have gotten inconel, not SS. While mine is coloring nicely, Inconel looks new even when old. Cheers, Corey
Hmmm that is one thing I did not realize about the inconel Guess it's good old elbow grease for now [emoji2] John
My Kline system has just arrived at my mechanics today after a painful 4 month wait. So keen to see what it’s like! I’m running mk 2 headers and standard cats so should be pretty street friendly. Hoping for S-line like high pitched sound without being so loud at low RPM.
Was bored today so tried out the Ospho on a spare bad exhaust. The discolouration just “washes” away. I scrub it gently with #0000 steel wool and rinsed it off good after. Before/after Image Unavailable, Please Login
https://www.obsessedgarage.com/products/ospho-metal-rust-treatment Available from here. These were the guys I saw how to use it from. Check our their TIG brush video as well for cleaning exhausts. That thing is cool (but quite costly)
