I have the tan interior. The doors have black panels on them. The tan panels and black handle seem to be leather. Are the black panels vinyl?

Interesting. I did the Leatherique treatment on the car and those panels came out terrible. A decent amount of color came off on the microfiber cloth and they have a hazy white look now. Everything else came out ok.

Prior owner probably damaged it and fixed it with shoe polish. Any kind of wipe on that leather that has alcohol in it will pull the color. Guessing that's what happened in the past and what you were looking at was shoe polish rubbed in that you just got off with the leatherique.

If they don't look great right now then trying dying them yourself certainly can't hurt.

For some reason I have worked on 3 348 and they all are susceptible to this marking on the door panels. They especially don’t like the leatherique process. Now all 3 could have been re dyed in this instance.

I have found on most leather surfaces - if they have been redyed the leatherique oil actually lifts the coloring and you reveal base material.

Black is the easiest colour to re dye and easily matched.

Here is some pics of the process of cleaning the door cards and having the color transfer to the rag, so I stripped them down, cleaned, filled the cracks and marks and then re dyed. All using leatherique products.

I think that picture was meant to be first. I believe he applied oil, and the dye actually came off and transferred to rag. After that disaster he decided to repair/refinish the entire panel.

Yes when adding pictures on my phone the sequence is out sometimes. The last pic was meant to be first. Showing how the oil lifts the color. I then refinished them.

Sounds like a good winter project. Maybe I will try the shoe polish dye for now.
