Yes, she is a real beauty. An original unmolested car. I just bought s/n 9911 in June, otherwise I’d be bidding on this one. Of course, two would be better than one, right?
Not sure about this one being “unmolested”, the hood has been repainted, the interior refreshed, Borrani wheels, rebuilt engine etc. Agree it’s the original color combination, but it’s not an unmolested time capsule.
by unmolested, I meant it has its original systems. On mine, a previous owner removed the Lucas fans and tore out the brackets (leaving holes in the cross brace…swell) and installed SPAL pancake fans. More efficient, but not original. And that’s just an example of one of the non-original items/systems in my car. So, it’s nice to see one that hasn’t had systems modified. Respray, rebuilt engine…I don’t consider that molestation. That’s maintenance. And he kept the original seating material which is cool. Again, not molested, simply refreshed a bit. Just my opinion.
Bonhams auction car, sold for $505K all in, purportedly highly original. https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/26887/lot/55/
fasthound, I followed your GTC on bringatrailer very carefully. If you'd like, I'd love to have a private discussion about our cars. If so please email me as below. steve meltzer/scheherazade. <[email protected]> s
Yep, the winner really wanted that one. $720K all in is at the high end of the market, but the car was well sorted out and had a good history. The buyer will need to spend $50K on a paint job at some point, but it is very usable today for rally's and as a driver.
Why was this $80k more than @fasthound 's? Classiche certification? I wouldn't call it a flawless car but that's flawless money. Sent from my SM-N975U using Tapatalk
The provenance was better, fewer owners, better mechanics who recently have worked on the car, mostly original paint, and lots of original details on the car that get lost when cars are restored. Full books, plus classique plus correct tools etc. The car was strong, we did a PPI and I was the under bidder. Price moved into 365 GTC territory, so I stopped bidding. You make money or at least break even when you buy the car. At that price too much downside.
I’ve personally never cared about provenance. I want a good, solid, well maintained, reliable car. 2 owners or 6 owners….I simply don’t care. That being said, everything llink said is true about the differences between my car and this one. Had I not bought mine, I would have bid on this one, although I wouldn’t have gone as high as it took to get this car. I hope the new owner keeps it very original and keeps it a long time.
