Guys, who has a smart answer on the following smart question:
Why do we have rain tyres in F1?

I think it's not just the rain, it's also because it's SPA. Austria, Germany, Texas, no biggie, get it going.

IMO, this is the most dangerous circuit on the calendar, plain and simple.

    They're right to delay.

    Same conditions for everyone.
It's a matter to know where you lift your right foot. It's childish not to race.

Minimum weather rules apply for Medical Helo and visibility rules for the Marshall's also apply as well. Its a touch more than just - lets race.

right, the nature of the course means visibility is limited and we don’t want a repeat of the ‘98 race (I believe) where Schumacher clipped Coulthard because he couldn’t see him in front of him. Trust the drivers in these types of conditions. Outside of Max, who has only the safety car in front, nobody felt it was safe to run in these conditions.

Maybe they can build a big tent over the track for F1 GP Spa Francorchamps 2022?

Russell suggesting that if they can't go, they would just do 2 laps behind the safety car and get classification for half the points. What the hell is that, such a selfish remark and nothing to do with racing.

FIA says Perez is a go if his car can be fixed.

Indeed. Super valuable points for Williams for basically free.

That said, at least Max would get the win.

Perez can start from the pitlane, but it's now a times race that started an hour ago.
Does that mean if they never start then last would be his finish place?

Not yet, but Masi said it will be a timed race. There is a time limit of 2 hours for a race, but there is a 3 hour maximum race time (with red flags and stoppages). The 3 hour clock started at 1500 hrs. There is about 1:35 left in that 3 hour limit.

I thought that the sheer boredom of the USGP 2005 would never be rivaled. I was wrong.

Well, it's a timed race BUUUUUT, they've counted 1 lap down behind the safety car. So is Checo already 1 lap down???

So they did 4 laps and the race will start on lap 39.

this reminds me of Montreal 2011 - I was one of those fans in the crowds getting soaked while sitting around waiting for the restart.

Yes, but if you're the guy who doesn't lift, you reap the benefit. Racing is a science of programming to ALWAYS reap the benefit. It doesn't matter if you're a driver or a designer. Reap the benefit.

The FIA regs seem to be absolutely Byzantine...and entirely subjective week to week. How can the formation lap be scored and the three hour clock started when they haven't even dropped the green? This is utter nonsense. Sure you try to mitigate the risk but it's an inherently dangerous activity and the decision to push it should always lie with the driver (and not FIA bureaucrats, team principals, race engineers, and strategists - whatever the hell those are.) Can you imagine Nuvolari, Carraciola, Fangio, Clark and this mess? Half points for a formation lap - are you kidding me?

do they not know their own rules? no reason to have started the formation lap/3 hour window. look at the radar screens first....
