    All,

I am trying to check the low side a/c pressure. I used two sets of guages and am not getting a reading. I am wondering if the square fittings at the end of the valves need to be opened to have the valves open. See attached picture.

    That looks.like a backseat valve

When stem is all the out hose adapter is closed
The the stem is mid way about half a turn or so all three outlets are "connected"
When all the way in you shut off the lines so you can disconnect without losing refrigerant

Clockwise turn to move stem in ..just do a half a turn

Be careful not to seat in and run compressor

Did you remove the Schrader valve from the original fittings before you installed the retrofit 134A fittings that also has the Schrader valve?

@flash32 – thanks for the tip I’ll try turning in to see if I get access. @miketuason — I assume the retrofit came with new valves. The shop did that and the system did work for a time.

Yes, if you can, check it, it is important although even with the schrader valve is still on the original fittings, it will still work but not very efficient and it’s wrong.

photo shows the valve on both, you only need one, the one from the 134A fittings.
