Need to get the error code read ..do you have any code readers like a autel ap200 , thinkdiag, fox well ..

You may consider getting a pretty inexpensive reader like the ap200 with your car ..it will pay for itself just to know what is going with the car .. additionally you can share more info here and people like myself will lend a hand to help ..of course all depending on your appetite to work on it

You have the car. You owe it to yourself, your sanity and your wallet to get an appropriate code reader to help diagnose this and future issues.

Unfortunately without proper diagnosis ..it can be at least 8 different things ..some very inexpensive to expensive

The trigger is usually a loss of pressure in the hydraulic system, in the best (cheapest) case caused by a leaking pressure accumulator. Grab a watch, open the driver's door and stop the hydraulic pump running (clearly audible whirring). Should stop after six seconds. If not, the system is leaking or there is air in the system. And check the hydraulic oil level first.

 

Look at comment #16 from my thread. The labor to get to it was alot. You can see from the photo, the part is connected to near the transmission. They had to remove alot of parts to get to it. Total cost around $12,000 US.

 

Schmidty, get a code reader, order it from Amazon if you have to. Then get ahold of flash32. He is the most knowledgeable of anyone else on this forum with diagnosing problems. But you need the code reader to get the fault code first.

Once you get the ap200 we will start using it to look at a few things starting with codes ...
Measuring fluid is easy - open bonnet gain access to reservoir open door to activate pump once pump stops stick finger in the reservoir and let finger tip touch disk ..if fluid is about half way up your nail you are good

 

Just had ur issue about a month ago. Turned out my F1 potentiometer was wacked. It tells the tcu what gear the tranny is in. I forget the error code but mechanic knew from reading the code. A 700.00 part and 2100.00 of dignostic and labor. Like others said, need the code.

Could be simple and need an F1 bleed and relearn. However, that wouldnt trigger the F1 light.

 

Look on YouTube for Normal Guy
Supercar videos. He had a 430 and now has a 458. He’s made numerous videos on maintenance.
There’s other guys that have done maintenance videos too.

Engine oil change, F1 fluid flush, gearbox oil change, coolant flush/change, power steering fluid change. There’s videos on all of them.

I spent hours and hours on YouTube when I first bought my car. It’s all easy to do now. It’s just a car.

Ouch. OP I would check your battery first. If it’s the potentiometers as indicated above don’t worry about it being that cost. They are only $600-800 for both of them and it’s a pretty simple diy. First time could easily get it done in one day.

I saw pics of the location of the potentiometers and can certainly say it would take a day for a first timer. Yiu will definitely need to bleed the F1 system and do a relearn. I gladly paid the 2100 in labor. If it ever happens again, i may diy. However, it took 15 years to wear the orig out. Hopefully last at least another 15. Ill be too old and decrepid to diy by then

 

Agreed it takes a little bit of time to get to but not that bad. I feel like a bleed and a relearn on this car is great to get done every other year along with getting the fluid check. Now not a complete change of fluid but just to verify level and no air.
