Given you can only drive 5 klms from home for God knows how long, anything English with Lucas electrics would suit, that's about the extent of reliability and you can still walk home after you set fire to it..

Ok Richie you look as though you're going down the same path I went when I was looking for the 'hairy chested' convertible/roadster.
It had to be either a 6 or 8 cylinder......and manual?
I looked at various brands up to about $85-$95K.
    Healeys...you would only want a 3000 the 100/6 isn't a 'sports' car...you'd be better off with a BN1 or2 4 cylinder than it.
Triumph TR5,if you could find one here and preferable to a TR6 which was also on the list....with both of those the Aussie one's are all injected NOT Stromberged.they are US imports!
The Stag, our resident Stagman Greg can fill you in..so long as you don't back up to him! :D
TR8,minimal genuine here and even fewer convertibles...but in the price bracket if you find one.
    TVR,Patrick can tell you about those.There are 3 on Carsales,2x 8's and a 6 (there's a 4 but....)
I also considered a Corvette C3 but couldn't find a RHD manual example and driving a LHD here does my head in...Ian is a man to talk to re those if you don't know them already!
Sunbeam Tiger, now out of reach all over $100K
    Daimler SP250/Dart....none.
MGC but you wouldn't do it to yourself unless you modified the steering, suspension and brakes!

That's the list I gave myself earlier this year and ended up with the Mog,which when it's going :(...is off the dial !! :D

    Sorry didn't answer this.
    The V8 is only a 2 seater,the straight 4's were both.
The 4 seater is always cheaper than the 2 seater.
There have been a couple of tickled with 2 seaters but they've been sold and don't last too long when they do come up for sale.

    Edit,a 5 speed in Melbourne:

What's a MOG? Morgan something something?

Healey: If I were to get one, it'd be a BN1. Preferably Le Mans spec.

Triumph: Don't really care for anything after the TR3. Perhaps a TR7/8, but really prefer the 3. Owned one for years and regret selling it.

TVR: Love them all. Seriously, all of them. Something about the styling really appeals to me, but I think most good ones would be well beyond my price point.

C3: I'd actually consider this, but only in LHD. Too much American in me to want otherwise.

Owned those too. If I'm going 4 I want the styling of a TR3.

You may want to try driving a LHD car here on a 2 lane road before you buy one...challenging..although Ian doesn't mind driving his C2 on them.

I lived in St Thomas for a number of years. All LHD and LH roads. Got quite used to it. Honestly I'm better with the side of the road than the spacial dynamics of the RHD. I always look to the right for a rear view mirror that isn't there...

with a $100K budget, the best buy would be a '68-71 C3 Vette (chrome bumpers front & rear), 350HP, 4 speed, LHD. Buy an original, unmodified car and it's guaranteed to hold value, if not increase. 68 and 69 are the most collectible.

This is available on Hemmings right now, AUD$65K landed & duty paid, is slightly modified but easily put back to original.
