I'm considering a 308 GT4 as my next project car as it checks all the right boxes for me: vintage style, 4 seats, mid-engined, and something interesting. This will be my first vintage car but I have plenty of mechanical experience including rebuilding engines and I want a long term project (2-10yrs is fine) -- my biggest concern is tracking down each and every minor trim bit and spending $$$ finishing out the car. I actually wouldn't mind if the car has engine/drivetrain/suspension work or even electrical gremlins as long as all the trim bits are there. I have plenty of time and would be OK chasing that stuff down. For me, it will be the journey vs the purchase.

Q: What are some good places to look for such a car?

    I already have searches on bringatrailer.com, classic.com, craigslist.com, hemmings.com, ebay.com, ferrarichat.com, barnfinds.com, and onlyred.com. Any other suggestions/leads would be appreciated.

I look forward to joining this community soon.

Beverly Hills Car Club. Projects galore. Just don’t purchase anything without seeing it firsthand.

So I saw that they have one in black but that might be the one color I'm not excited about.
Also, from what I can see the rear seat will cost me another $1300-ish plus reupholstry costs.

Any other comments bout that company and their trustworthiness?
Q: What exactly is their business model? Are they just a dealer that specializes in a bunch of project cars and make money on the flip OR do they actually take a few and restore them themselves and what they sell are the ones they acquired but cannot justify the repair?

BTW, I called the BHCC. The black car had been sold. The engine "freely turned" but it was a non-running car.
Not bad looking (from pictures, I'm sure they have a great detailer).

I don’t think they do but very little repair, just flip their cars, could be wrong however. As far as trustworthiness, I wouldn’t purchase anything from them without a hands-on inspection first but others here have purchased from them say they are willing to let anyone inspect their vehicles, will put it up on a lift for you etc.
Thinking about it more, probably your best option is just to put the word out here that you’re looking for a project GT-4. These guys can find anything!:)

I found after checking one out in person and seeing the prices that they went for that a Mondial makes sense for my next project. The GT4 is a good, cool vintage car but there are plenty more people willing to pay a larger premium for this model and/or originality than me. A Mondial checks the same number of boxes for my needs; if I wanted a faster and more reliable car than either of these two, I'd buy a camry :)

I ended up buying an 83 Mondial QV for my next project.
