After Ferrari in Camera, Inside Track is probably my favorite. I've enjoyed many hours with Hill's photos and captions.

Inside Track would be my top priority, not cheap but still available new from the publisher.

Here some pix taken in Pebble Beach August 2011 when Larry Perkins and I drove 3223 GT over the ramp. 3223 GT had been fully and fastidiously restored by Wayne Obry's MPI Motion Products of Neenah/WI, into the Sebring configuration.
A fantastic and unforgettable day with Wayne, Larry and 3223 GT. We collected at least four different trophies.

Looks like an interesting publication. But would order from Amazon (if you're in the EU, use Amazon Germany), where the book is about half the price from the Swiss website.

 

That's a fine collection. It's hard to make out some of the titles, but I'd work on a biography section of drivers who drove for Ferrari. One of the best being Mon Ami Mate., there are many others of course.

I think I'd also consider main competitors too, like Cobra Ferrari wars that you have. Maybe Ford vs Ferrari.

Then general motors sport standards, like Pomeroy's Grand Prix Cars, Doug Nye carried it on too with a couple of editions published by Autocourse. The Encylopedia of Motor Sport by Georgano etc.

Then talking about Autocourse, that's a collection I think every motorosport's library should have.

The trouble is, is that it's never ending and I truly believe we are in a golden age of automobile publishing.

You're welcome. Have fun with the chase. I'd suggest you reconsider Cavallino. Although shipping to Australia will be expensive, secondhand entire collections are readily available in the States & Europe (they are often listed on eBay and vendors advertise in Ferrari Market Letter. The scholarship by Ferrari historians, historical photos as well as reporting and photos of current events & restorations make it far more interesting than many of the books I've purchased.

Thank you Marcel for letting us know about the book. I remember seeing you & Mr. Perkins cross the Pebble Beach stand, but couldn't see your face from my vantage point. You look like a happy schoolboy in the picture!

Its wonderful how technology has made self-publishing so accessible nowadays. Thank you bloomberg for pointing to Amazon. I have placed an order and Amazon says it will ship in 1-2 days.

Good points! Other than reference grade books for the cars I own, I've had to refrain from purchasing titles regarding other marques, particularly as the prices have increased. For example, I was tempted to purchase Kidston's Miura book when first made available.

As an aside, what English language books about de Portago, Rubirosa and von Trips would you recommend?

Did you consider the “Cavalleria” series?

 

And “Emotion Ferrari” tome 1 by Maurice Louche. It’s French but a photo book and quite hard to find nowadays.

 

I think the only book on de Portago is by Ed McDonough, I haven't read it, but other books of his I've have been very good, as to Rubirosa and von Trips, are there any English language book, I don't think so, but I may be wrong.

Phil Hill's Yankee Champion would at least cover his time with von Trips

Thank you, I'll look for McDonough's book. Other than magazine articles reprinted on the Internet and mentions in books about drivers, I've been unable to find English language books about Rubirosa & von Trips. Nolan does have some discussion about von Trips in Yankee Champion.

 

It's a beautiful book no question.

I just wish they published it in a non carbon fibre version that doesn't cost $4,000.

 

Ah yes, how could I forget about Emotion Ferrari 1. I think the photo reproductions in EF2 aren't as good - some are a bit blurry.

If you want series of books to fill your shelves, besides Cavalleria there is Ferrarissima. For both, if you can find a vendor offering the entire series, the prices are usually significantly cheaper than the piecemeal lots offered on eBay (although still expensive).

I also just remembered that Bernard Cahier's F Stops, Pit Stops has great Ferrari content within its motorsports photos and text.

 

Yes Ferrarissima (both the series) is a definitely an option.

You've certainly given me a few options to pursue with your list so many thanks again.

I guess everyone has to draw the line somewhere and I guess with me they mostly need to be in English.

I don't necessarily want or need to own every book written about Ferrari but would just like to own most of the must have "classics" to put together a world class Ferrari library.

Hopefully I'm well on the way there.

 

Thanks for the generous mentions of 'Inside Track' - our Phil Hill photography and autobiography books. Just now we are down to the last remaining units - fewer than ten - of the three-volume, leather-bound, Connoisseurs Edition...

““XKD 603 “Through the Lens of Time” The Storied Journey of a D-Type Jaguar” by Clive Beecham.

Just had the privilege of picking up this fabulous new book. Although I am fundamentally a Ferrari man (obviously) I really love all the classic 1950s and ‘60s sports racing cars – Astons, Jags, Maseratis etc. and I know many of you are the same. So this new title caught my attention and it does not disappoint.

It’s basically the story of one D-Type but the story is well told, and full of fantastic photos; not just your usual racing fodder but detail, unusual, interesting photos with a good amount of ‘50s colour as well. It really captures the racing of the ‘50s. Along with the racing photos there is also lots of interesting and relevant memorabilia, including “The Works Book” which offers a fascinating insight into the every day life of a working race car. There is also input from those who raced, worked and owned XKD 603. This really is a delight!

340 pages, over 250 colour and 150 b/w photos. There are only 603 standard copies, and 100 deluxe copies with a really cool slip-case.
