I was shocked to find the current ones are $500K. I think Ford really wants to go toe-to-toe with the C8. Like around $59K. Have to be a hybrid to keep the eco folks happy. GM planned for a hybrid C8 so will have no trouble matching that. Any thoughts on the wisdom of going downmarket with the next GT?

They have the Mustang for that price point. I think the GT is now a halo car. Not supposed to be a cash cow but a brand asset. It would be terrible to go down market.

Current new GTs way more than $500k new, and used probably $900-$1.1m.
Totally different universe than C8 vette, which is a very nice car.

The Ford GT was made so that Ford could go back to LeMans in 2016. The marching orders from Ford were:

1.) We will win in 2016 with new car.
2.) Car will be a race car first, street car second, with as few compromises to the street car as possible.
3.) Race car program must be paid for through street car sales.
4.) Must use the Ecoboost V6 motor.
5.) Car must exhibit unique styling and technical design.

And we hit everyone one of these criteria!

It's about winning one's class at Le Mans - can't really compare different classes, as very different criteria

Winning your class is 100% winning at Le Mans.

Winning overall is great for newspaper headlines and for people who know nothing but it is no less an achievement to win your class.

Taking a class win and saying you won the war would be like the Germans saying they won WWII after the battle of Dieppe.

Not really true when it comes to Le Mans though, as the prototype class for instance has very different limitations than the cars that have to more or less be homologated street legal cars, like Corvette or Ford GT etc... Like comparing apples to watermelons in this particular case.

Besides, Ford knows what its like to win leMans overall-they did it four years in a row with the original GT40. Far more impressive than Toyota's lame win against no opposition.

I have won both LMP1 and GTE classes. And both have same value/joy for me.

But the Mustang is a real POS! I race a 2019 GT and even the hotest whatever mustang still is the bones of the base GT. We are talking the ultimate putting lipstick on a pig.

    why do you think that?

Ford GT-whether original, 05/06 or 16+, has never gone toe to toe with a contemporary Corvette.

also I'm not sure where all these $59k Corvettes are. every one I see is 80k+.....Z06 will be 120k or so?

I agree, Ford is not going to join the "compete with Corvette" derby. History is littered with cars that tried (and failed) to grab the Corvette business (RX-7/8, 300Z/ZX, 924/944/968, 3000GT, Supra, etc...)

And based on numbers released by the Corvette museum, there are very FEW "stripper" C8's out there. My dealer (small) who has delivered about 20 C8's, told me his cars (all customer orders obviously) are averaging between $85K - $88K MSRP. He had one (an HTC) that was pushing $100K!!!

I got the 2LT , Z51 , front lift for a list of $77k and that's what I paid. We didn't want any of the carbon fiber stuff.

I don't think I would add anything to that order, unless you want to go convertible.
