I posted a while back about a noise that was linked to forward wheel rotation and seemed to be coming from the rear left hand side. Anyway I now think I have found the cause after jacking up the rear of the car to both wheels could be rotated. It is the rubber pipe #53 on the parts diagram, touching the left hand drive shaft. It is hard hollow rubber tubing connecting into metal pipework. It created a sound mimicking brakes. It only made the sound rotating the driveshaft in forward rotation which is what I was experiencing. Almost like blowing on a "musical instrument".

It is a breather hose, I cut it out higher up and the noise is gone. This pipe protrudes through the bottom of the floorpan, I think at the last service this pipe was disturbed, it was not protruding out through the floorpan but was kinked towards the drive shaft.

Could be an evaporative emissions vent. Replace it and route it correctly.

Fuel vapors entering the engine compartment not good.

Thanks for following back up with what you found. so many on these types of forums will complain about a noise issue or other issue and never report back on the fix. Kudo's!

IIRC there was a recall on the evaporator. Looks like the install of the new one they didn't take care of the exit hose properly.

Definitely not a good thing that the vapour hose is ending in the engine bay.

Logic says why did they replace it. Reroute it the correct way as you might get a bad surprise one day.

Thanks for all the comments. Mandalay, if you could find the link to the recall on the evaporator that would be great. I can't find it.
The hose is part of the breather pipe for the power steering pump

Call your dealer or check NHTSA website for recalls.
