    Hello,

    I have had my 512TR for 5 years and I usually keep the kill switch on, I have tried starting it last time after 6 months the battery is dead.

    What do you think of installing a ctek charger whilst keeping my kill switch on? I mean the "factory power terminal" on the right fender side top of the battery.

    Never tried Ctek on older cars, only on modern cars which work well.

    That’s how I’ve kept my 512TR’s battery alive for the last five years or so.

    It won't cause any problems, I have mine wired to the battery then the plug is run to where the horns are so just pop the hood and plug that in

    Do you have the negative lead hooked up to the battery or to the chassis/negative ground?

    Hooked to the chassis ground if I remember correctly but I can't 100% remember.

    why to the chassis ground? when the main switch is off then the battery will not be charged

    what is special there at 40 sec?
    if the main switch in the car is "off" then the battery will not get charged when you put the negative charger wire to ground somewhere on the chassis.

    So if the switch is not turned off every time the charger is plugged in, the negative lead can and needs to go to the chassis and not the negative terminal on the battery, is that correct?

    You can double check with a cheap multimeter when switch is off, I don't have a car with a switch, but I connect my leads to the terminals itself, noco and ctek both.

    yes, this is correct. but only when the main switch is turned on

    but the negative lead not need to go to the chassis. always better is when connected to the battery terminals because of may be bad connection to the chassis or from the chassis to the battery.

    Works great on older cars, I've had a 3300 working on various older cars for 15+ years and recently bought a MXS 5 because the thing has to die eventually.

    So on a car without a battery switch, and assuming that all the connections are healthy and functional, the "safest" method of installing a charger is to use the the vehicle ground instead of the negative terminal. Is this a fair statement?

    not really. best is always to connect directly the the battery. but if all is ok then you can also go to ground somewhere at the chassis
