More or less explains the rest of the post too. Having owned a 488, 720, and currently an F8 I can say with complete resolve the 720 wouldn’t struggle to catch up to either Ferrari. On a track with proper drivers in both the 720 vs Pista would be tight… but trade out the 720 for their performance version in the 765 and forget it.

    Glorious sound. LMAO

If the poster perceives the sound of the F8 to be glorious, good for him. Let him enjoy. Similarly, if the owner of any car believes it to be beautiful, then it is beautiful.

Welp, that's the result of 710 bhp vs. 780 bhp.

Better engine? As for agility and response, the F8 engine will absolutely wipe the floor with the 720S.

Both great cars, but nothing else out there with turbos can match the feel and response of the Ferrari turbo engines.

He was shifting on point. The 720S is just more powerful and thus it pulled ahead up top. Lower down they were closer matched. Ferrari has a longer 6th and 7th gear, and that matters too.

Oh well, semantics. As you said, few will care. I won't change my mind about F8 vs. 720S. Just cannot get along with how the 720S look.

I watched it too, and could not find any evidence of it. It was pretfy equal down low, and seeing that the Macca is the more powerful of the two, the result would be very different had he been short shifting.

The Pista and the F8 are similar power and I will tell you that 720 beats Pista in power abs speed. So not surprising that 720 beats F8.

Makes no difference cause the next generation Ferraris (Sf90 and 296) have upped the ante tremendously on power and speed . Looking forward to Mclaren’s response in 2023 with the 720 replacement.

I've done the F8 vs. Pista. If you roll from say 130 mph, the Pista, struggles and at 150 the F8 pulls ahead. That's just aero for you. Roll them from 30 mph and a Pista with CF wheels blow tve F8 out of the water. The more aggressive engine mapping jf the Pista in the lower gears as,well as the lighter weight is too much fir the F8.

Take them on a track with corners, and the F8 will be keft fjr dead by the Pista.

    Just totally different cars.

The F8/Pista engine is much more agile. Revs better, much less lag etc. Every time I get in a 720S the engine response and turbo lag ruins it for me.

it seems I e seen closer races on YouTube between the F8 and 720. Ultimately the 720 pulled away but the F8 seemed to do better than this video showed. I am assuming in the hands of a more capable driver who was definitiely running up the rpm’s

Ok so the 720S is faster than the F8/ Pista Socal. I could not convince you with my jibber jabber. I don’t care that the 720S is faster. I hate the way it looks.

Convincing, well reasoned argument by Il Co.

Why do you continue to get into the 720s when it displeases you so much?

F8 is a great car. Don’t own ours anymore but I didn’t want to keep Pista and an F8 in the garage. I could easily believe 720 is faster, it has more hp. It doesn’t really matter though, the Ferrari feels great to me. I think the sound is fine too. Not 812 great but then what is? People mock the F8 sound from YouTube videos of static revving, which is a complete joke - it doesn’t go past about 3.5k! When you’re behind the wheel and putting some torque through the chassis it sounds perfectly acceptable for a £200k sports car and a bit nicer than the McLaren motor. On a long road trip it is really well judged. Try a GT3 RS over 2,000 fast road miles in a week and tell me the F8 doesn’t have something going for it. Sure, the GT3 over 100 miles sounds far better for half the price, but it doesn’t have that turbo pull or mid-engined balance and Ferrari drama. I could never get on with either the 650 or 720 looks, yet both the 675 and 765 look great, especially 675 which is really a wonderful car in almost all respects. Can’t really work that out.

On a drag strip, 720 rules over the F8. On a track and in your garage it could be a very different thing but as GH said, they’re all brilliant and in 10 years we might wonder what on earth we were all arguing about, from behind the wheel of our Super EV.

The Pista needs to be rolled at 30 mph and with CF wheels ( $30k option) to beat the F8. Another convincing argument.

The SF90 is not a competitor for the 720S...the F8 is...the SF90 is over twice the price of the 720S...

Even if the 720 is faster, it just isn’t attractive and doesn’t get me going like a Ferrari.

Is there a problem with your eyes?? Cause I’m not sure why they are rolling the way they are in your post. I didn’t say the sf90 is a competitor to the 720. I merely stated that with the next gen Ferraris- aka sf90 and 296, they upped their game Big time and now competitors are trying to catch up to them instead of ferrari playing catch up.

But that is your personal view. It means nothing to others. The facts are that the 720 is an incredible car and McLaren changed the game and Ferrari had to respond. Many of us that bought 720's can buy whatever we want but this car checks a lot of boxes. A lowly 458 is pretty to look at and makes a nice sound but performs like a souped VW Jetta with sticky buttons. Oh and I have had about 15 Ferraris not to mention my current 488 EVO. Its just laughable at some of these comments.

And you didn’t mention with the larger front nacelle, the Pista has considerable more down force than the F8.

The SF90 is more of a competitor to the 765LT. I passed over the SF90 for the 765 because of its enormous weight and complexity. I have very little faith in Ferrari managing electric power based on my experience with many cars. I will let the test rats sort it out and maybe I will step in on the next version. For now the only car that interests me is the GTS which I have ordered.

Interestingly the Pista has quite a bit of lag from 3rd to 4th gear that I didnt really feel on the street but big time on the track. I get this with my 488 EVO as well. I drove the Super Trofeo EVO at Sebring and although it makes less power it is much more linear than the Ferrari. The 720 to me didnt feel much different from the Ferrari in this way. I enjoyed he Lambo so much I bought the EVO II and will race in that series next year as well.
