It’s all very simple: demand & supply, and price & value.

Agreed, and at that price I'd be very surprised if supply gets close to demand.

    Time will tell.

When I wrote defended, substitute the word with either purchased or considering purchasing. :)

My reason for this post is related to comments about the high cost of leather bindings on books compared to the standard edition of said book. I thought I would post this picture of one of my first auto books I bought. This a Corvette history book done in 1976 by Karl Ludvigsen. There were 2 editions; one numbered and bound in the same corvette leather as used in the interior and one standard cloth with a jacket. The picture is of my leather edition #53 and Still smells like leather because it has lived in zip lock bag for 43 years( I know its crazy). If a book I want comes in leather bound edition I will buy it that way. I don’t really know why I do that but I guess we all have our eccentricities and they smell good too! haha
Soooo..to make a long short my point was to tell you that the yellow page in the photo is the receipt for the book from 1977 it was whopping $47.50 + 1.50 for shipping I think the standard book was 19.95. I guess Leather has always been pricey when you put around a book.

Does anyone have the leather edition of the Breadvan book by Porter Press? Any comments on its quality?

I have the standard edition, which I like so much that I am thinking about buying the leather edition for the same reasons mentioned above in the nice post.

Maybe start a new thread for the ‘leather fetishists’?

I know you have an amazing collection of leather edition books in your library Vern.

The only thing I find is I end up buying the expensive leather book AND the standard book as well so I end up running out of two precious things very quickly.

One is money, the other is shelf space. :) :)

Was also thinking of starting a "show us your ever growing library" thread too.
    Thoughts ?

.........might be more daazzlingly interesting if you were to eliminate 'leather' and start the new thread simply for 'fetishists'

I had chance to see it myself few weeks ago.
For one thing: it is very nice looking item. It has that luxury feel with its carbon cover, plaque, 3D horse applique, good quality paper etc. I'd say it really looks good. Negatives? The book is awkwardly big and heavy.

Inside I saw some historic photos from 50s racing, some behind-the-scenes photos depicting design and production process, some great pictures of the car. Again: pretty nice and stylish.

And there is definitelly something to read, as the book contains quite a lot of text. I haven't had time to read, so I don't know what sort of story it is. But I guess it is Ferrari boasting about themselfs. Why would you expect anything else in book writen, published and sold by Ferrari?

Working in publishing business, I really apreciate quality of this piece.
But is it worth the money? Well, if there are people willing to pay so much for it, then it is.

The special "Ferrari by Schedoni" limited edition book will be officially introduced at Padova fair "Auto-moto d'epoca" on Friday October 22, Padiglione 15, BBR Model stand, at 11.00 AM. It will be introduced by Simone Schedoni himself, by the Artestampa Eadizioni boss Carlo Bonacini and me, the book author.

There will be 141 numbered copies in English and 38 numbered copies in Italian: 141 as the years of Schedoni firm (since 1880) and 38 years since they started the partnership with Ferrari racing department, in 1983. That year was very important also because they abandoned the "Cuoio Designer Modena" and changed it into "Cuoio Schedoni Modena" brand, as Enzo Ferrari himself suggested to Mauro Schedoni. Those two numbers were chosen by Mr. Simone Schedoni himself, as a tribute to his family and to his beloved father Mauro, who started all the "Ferrari by Schedoni" story.

Here you are the link to see some teasers of the special edition production first steps, directly from Schedoni atelier: they are cutting and making the book box and bounding it with their leather. Picture ©: Artestampa Edizioni, with the permission of Simone Schedoni, Schedoni S.r.l. C.E.O, who cheers you in the last pictures,

    Ciao!

    Ciao

Well, I just had the chance to have a look at it at Ferrari's Maranello's official store (god it just looks like any high-end luxury fashion store now) and I have to say it's a pretty beautiful book. That carbone cover is amazing, like the global quality of the object (the print, the paper...)
Still not sure it's worth more than, say, 500 €, but I can understand some may buy it as a collector item.

Eventually I received my copy of the standard edition of the Breadvan book - not flashy at all, but good reading.

Obviously, this became a much sought-after collectors' item instantly, because it is sold out everywhere ... No one has it in stock, which is a pity, because I heard about the book too late ...

You’re only partly right. The slip cased edition of 100 copies has already sold out but Chaters, the distributors, still have a fair number of standard editions, approximately 450 of the 603 printed. As there have been no official reviews of the book at all, except for a few forum contributions from some people who have got hold of theirs via Chaters, I rather hope that the rest of the standard edition will equally successful, but time, and reviews will no doubt tell……I will not be reprinting the book.
