    Last night of visiting family…

Local grown Yak smash burgers and chicken brats. Yummy.

(the blasphemy of ketchup on the brat is because it’s my wife’s plate…I ate mine the second it hit the table so no change to get a pic of mine, had to snap her plate. Yuchy.)

Decided to skip getting fast food with my mom. Dad and brother came over to watch UFC and boxing. Ended up getting Chinese take out.

    Tonight I'm getting sushi.

My mom wants to do thanksgiving dinner tonight. So we are having the prime rib tonight. Need to go and get horseradish at the store. Usually cook with garlic, but we are leaving it out. Bella the spoiled pup needs a bone. Garlic is bad for dogs.

Be careful. Cooked bones are easier to splinter.

    When is TG up North?

I'll be careful with the bone, good heads up, thanks. Thanksgiving is the second Monday in October for Canada. So tomorrow. We decided to do the dinner tonight instead.

Made a Costco run yesterday to order new glasses so grabbed a few things while there. No chickens ready and I didn't feel like waiting with the rest of the vultures. ;) Came home and made pizza, thought I had some pepperoni left but I didn't. Then I remembered I had leftover meatballs so sliced them up and put 'em on the pizza. Tasty with some mushrooms and onions. That and a salad was dinner last night.

Thinking about making a pot roast tomorrow. Looked at chuck roasts at Costco but all they had wee prime and they were huge. $40-$50 for a pot roast is too much, not to mention too big. ;)

Think I'm gonna go for a drive and see what the Central market that's about 20 miles away has for chuck roasts. Nice night for a drive.

Dinner was ok................ We over cooked the prime rib. Was just above med rare and we like it rare. My brother was in charge of cooking it and he followed a recipe he found online. His fault. They don't sell creamy horseradish here. So I had to make my own. Got a recipe online. I did substitute a bottled onion sauce for mayo and it came out awesome. Mom made an apple crumble that was excellent with the caramel ice cream I bought.

If its open, going to get sushi tonight with my parents.

If you liked that, Paul, then nostalgia food week is still in swing.
    Made ramen last night.
Ramen noodles, chuck the mystery flavor packet, add in chicken broth, water, a little fish sauce, pickled jalapeños, cooked salt sized shrimp, dried shiitake.
Let it steep for about 10 min, zap it in the microwave, enjoy.

I've made my negative viewpoint on condiments well-known. Apart from hot sauce and salsa, can't stand almost all know condiments!

The creamy horseradish I made had a little kick like hot sauce. I used hot prepared horseradish. Not a big fan of ketchup. I usually eat fries plain.

An ex girlfriend is Portuguese and they make these amazing potatoes. They are little balls. Here is a recipe: Portuguese-Style Roast Potatoes Recipe - Ian Knauer | Food & Wine (foodandwine.com) In Toronto there is a Little Portugal neighborhood with many restaurants. You can get trays of the potatoes as take out at most of the Portuguese restaurants. Her mother would cheat and buy the potatoes at a restaurant. The girlfriend would add mayo and I tried them that way. It was good................................

Planned on using the smoker and make spaghetti, but the flame went out during the first hour so I just moved it to a crockpot. Did the beef and onions alone (seasoned when I put on the smoker) for one hour and then added sauce and 1/4 cup of chicken broth (didn't have beef broth open) and did for around 3-4 hours in total before I ate.

Last of the tomatoes and basil, so one final caprese. These might have been the ripest tomatoes I’ve ever had.

Wife has been on a gnocchi and ravioli kick lately…she used up some remaining ricotta to make ricotta gnocchi last night and I used the last of the sage to make another brown butter sage sauce. These gnocchi were the lightest she has made yet (only ricotta, parm, a bit of flour, salt and egg yolks iirc).

Japanese restaurant was closed for thanksgiving. Ended up making beef dip with the prime rib................. Tonight making ribs at home with my brother. We are going to finally see No Time To Die. On Tuesdays movies are half priced, so it will likely be busy.
