Can anyone explain how to jump start a 488?
My battery is not dead but who knows if I'll need that knowledge one day
Any pointers ? Are the terminals marked clearly? Anything I need to watch out for ?
I looked for videos on you tube but found none

    Thank you

Basic rule of any electronic Ferrari is do not jump start - the voltage variations (I think) screw up the systems - there is some leeway for booster units - also modern batteries tend not to recover like traditional lead acid - best precaution is to keep it on a charger if not in use

There are multiple battery threads in each model section so its probably worth checking some out for corroboration if required

Ageing electronics do not like jump start with booster (jump start with another battery is much safer). On modern electronic your mileage may vary.

Do not feel over-confident a 3 year old pocket booster will get you out of trouble: these units do not age well.

I jump started my 488 once or twice (from another car with running engine) and did not get any trouble.
My car is always on the tender but there were some electricity cuts some times I was not there.

It's typically best to disconnect the negative terminal and then charge the battery using a battery charger if you can. I'd avoid jumping from another car if possible; even though it will work, it can be potentially risky to the car's electronics in rare cases.

Jump starting from another car is much safer when the "donor" is not runing. This avoids both voltage regulator fighting against each others as soon as both engines are runing.

My personnal procedure, is to let the donor car run with both batteries connected (which recharges the depleted battery). Then stop the donor car, keep both batteries connected and start the other car. Requires long good quality cables.

This being said, I never had to do it again since the purchase of the entry level (0.8amps) CTEK battery tender. It stays on the car for ever. €45. Problem solved.
